Does tea have a significant effect on the catabolic state?

@Mr Write Fuhrman advocates no caffeine. My diet is so 'good' (in his sense) that I have no problem with it. I've also found that as my health (continues!) to improve I have less need for stimulants, which probably contributes to the issue.

I picked up the habit when I was traveling to Japan. Certain varieties of green and white have the lowest caffeine of any of them. Some have a lot, like Matcha which is green tea powder used in the Tea Ceremony. Matcha leaves are grown in shade, which converts the chlorophyl to caffeine and turns it into rocket juice.

At any rate I think the problem isn't the caffeine but something else. I can sleep no problem when I have a few cups in the morning, the problem is that I don't sleep very deeply. I'm active and I sleep less. Overall I have more energy. It could be one of the other stimulants in tea.
You are assuming that it is in fact the tea, or something in it. The human organism is affected by more variables than just the pharmacological action of a handful of compounds in a drink. Do you think that something else may be creating the outcome that you are concerned about, with the imbibing of tea being a false positive?

@Jah posted this once: Evidence-Based Practice: Coffee

I don't really notice anything from tea or coffee. Except if I drink a lot, I get very sleepy.

Last year, @Polaris told me something about the decaf process that wasn't all good. Can't recall exactly what was said, though.

Uhm yes, you should probably stop listening to Polaris, and listen more to @Jah. What wasn't good was what was said probably, since all I recall is the process of extracting caffeine from tea during chemistry class. It wasn't all that safe....I remember having sore eyes and throat after inhaling too many solvents....but nevertheless being slightly delirious over the fact that we managed to extract quite a few grams of pure caffeine crystals from half a litre of innocent black tea.

One way of decaffeinating (verb?) coffee beans is to use solvents, mainly methylene chloride or ethyl acetate which is swirled around the green beans to extract the caffeine. Residual solvent is removed by steaming the beans....this is supposed to be a safe process, subject to strict laws....

I like drinking coffee because it makes me more extroverted. :cat:

And I will never give up caffeine...life is too short.

Even if said caffeine may have a hypothetical negative cumulative effect on my life span.

Quality, not quantity....

Fuck decaf.

im only commenting because i just saw a show on how they decaffeinate coffee using supercritical fluid extraction. a lot safer method that involves Co2.

but yea i laughed my ass off when they pulled out this gigantic pile of pure caffeine...the guys eyes got huge...id imagine insufflating pure caffeine would be a hell of a ride.

Caffeine doesn't seem at all harmful or addictive. There are people who quit it and people who never acquire a taste for it.
And so I don't see a need to quit my piddly 2 cups of coffee a day, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. Keeps one awake and it's hardly abuse.

On concentrated coffee note

Extreme overdose can result in death.[67][68] The median lethal dose (LD50) given orally, is 192 milligrams per kilogram in rats. The LD50 of caffeine in humans is dependent on individual sensitivity, but is estimated to be about 150 to 200 milligrams per kilogram of body mass or roughly 80 to 100 cups of coffee for an average adult.[4] Though achieving lethal dose with caffeine would be exceptionally difficult with regular coffee, there have been reported deaths from overdosing on caffeine pills, with serious symptoms of overdose requiring hospitalization occurring from as little as 2 grams of caffeine.[citation needed] An exception to this would be taking a drug such as fluvoxamine or levofloxacin, which blocks the liver enzyme responsible for the metabolism of caffeine, thus increasing the central effects and blood concentrations of caffeine five-fold.[66][67][68][69] Death typically occurs due to ventricular fibrillation caused by effects of caffeine on the cardiovascular system.

No. I've done enough experiments to know that tea is the culprit. A cup in isolation (none a few days before or after) is OK, but having it more than that causes trouble.
