I found Bullet Train disappointing, and I shouldn't have bought the 4K sight unseen. It's not bad, it's just derivative and not as good as every movie it was aping -- including, yes, Tarantino style flicks. I felt like the pacing was bad too; it was billed as a frantic action picture, and it's got a lot of dead space with quick bursts of energy that never lasted as long as I hoped. However, Andrew Taylor-Johnson was just really great; I didn't even recognize him at first. I felt like the relationship between him and his bro made the latter half of the film better.
I mean, I've been waiting for Tarantino to fail, but damn, he just knows how to make interesting films. I think my least favorite film by him was Jackie Brown, and it was still good. I did really enjoy Once Upon a Time in Hollywood as well, despite wondering whether I would. I had read a lot about the Manson murders, and that was a hell of a fantasy ending that no one saw coming -- does that make it a feel-good film now? lol. I felt like the film was really respectful of Sharon Tate and did justice to her memory. And that whole center section where Brad Pitt visits the Manson farm... welp, again, Tarantino's skill as a filmmaker, it was all dripping with tension.
