I generally enjoy Allende though I haven't read that particular book.

I read a book by Mercedes Lackey recently just to see what all the fuss is about. Don't. Do. It.

Don't read anything she's published in the past 5-10 years. It's garbage. Her older books, however, are excellent.

I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings. I despise that book, and the author. She has no talent absolutely whatsoever and merely presents an African-American pride sob-story. [Please don't think I'm against African-American pride! I just hate sob-stories. No matter the genre.] She solved no issues. She prevailed over nothing. It wasn't funny or interesting. Merely boring and depressing.

Stranger in a strange land

I kept telling myself that it must get better since it's so highly ranked everywhere. No luck. Apparently the solution to a more fulfilling life is to be rich and live in a nudist cult.

blackwater by kerstin ekman - this "bestseller" is extremely tough to finish. i don't usually read crime fiction, but do authors in this genre habitually burn time introducing faceless characters, attempting complexity but managing only to turn out pages of obvious waffle? "mary has a husband, william, who had a gout afflicted foot. several doctors had tried to treat it in the past, but none had succeeded, the last doctor, donald, had called her on the telephone once and told her how to fix a car tyre..." on and on throughout 400+ pages, pointless characters and words in a tedious downpour, all of which only dampen suspense. although she stirs in a few promising ingredients, they aren't followed up. and when we get to the conclusion, the killer's identity, treated with such importance before, is just thrown in begrudgingly, as if ekman couldn't be bothered. unrewarding.

The only terrible book I have ever read was the fourth book in the Inheritance Quadrilogy. By the end it was just really, really stupid. Other than that, the only time I have felt bad after reading a book was when I finished Consider Phlebas by Ian Banks. But that wasn't because the book was bad. It was actually fairly good. But the ending was the most utterly depressing thing I have ever read. It actually rivals 1984 in terms of bleakness.

Stabby Rip Stab Stab the Lord of the Flies.:beatyou:
Whaaat? Lord of the flies is great!

I took an American Lit Class last quarter...

Moby Dick was absolutely, completely, and utterly terrible.

The Scarlet Letter was bad as well. Nothing happened, at all, and I knew who was the woman's lover was right off, thoroughly spoiling what passed for "suspense".

I liked Eragon when I was younger, but not so much anymore. Is the last book worth cracking?

Empire by Card was a pathetic piece of work by a usually good author.

I am a big Michael Crichton fan but Airframe was rather boring especially compared to his other work.

Usually though, if a book doesn't hook me in near the beginning I drop it then and there. I normally have a handful of books checked out from the library and I don't have time to waste on a bad book.

Bad books.. relgious books, don't follow the logic, the logical fallacies, emotional appeals, and word salads drive me crazy.

Even though I haven't read Twilight, I can just tell it's bad... I dunno, I get that hunch, that little tiny voice that tells me to stay far, far away from it.
