How often do you find yourself "on the wrong side of the law"?
Do you break the law often?
Do you think you break the law more often and in more severe ways than the average person?

I've never been incarcerated, if that's what you are getting at.

I mostly follow the law, just like most people. There are very practical reason for this which I am sure you are aware of.

The point I break the law is when the law is without common sense, not in all cases because there is still the threat of getting caught.

I am mostly pragmatic when it comes to the law. If it makes sense to break the law, then I will. I have no loyalties the the law in and of itself. Most laws are there for at least a somewhat good reason. The laws I am talking about are ones that the everyday person is aware of. The more specific/obscure the law is, the more perverse it is in my estimation.

If I do, it's pretty minor stuff that everyone does. (For example, driving over the speed limit.)

TBH I can get everything I need within the system so I'm not really pushed to go outside of it in risky ways, whereas others might be more in conflict with the system. My general attitude: I'm kind of indifferent, versus strongly supporting it or wanting to break it Just Because... it's just a system created to keep society stable (at its most positive), so it's not perfect but serves its purposes. So I am thinking more big picture (in terms of "how does what I do on my own contribute to the overall stability of society?") or in terms of personal risk ("If I do x, what are the ramifications for being caught?")

I don't think the law and personal ethics are synonymous.

I take illegal drugs on rare occasions, and smoke inside places I shouldn’t. Like on the underground. That’s about it. When I was more struggling I perfected a really elaborate technique to not pay for metro tickets after noticing they don’t work and have to be changed when you leave them next to credit cards or magnetic clasps in my bag. What I would do, is use one, then immediately rub off the ink the machine leaves as you validate it, then run a magnet along the band to de magnetize it, then have it changed at the selling desk telling them I left it next to my credit card. Repeat as necessary.

Pretty common misdemeanors I should think. Oh I’ve shop lifted as well, when I was hungry, but only ever from massive shop chains, never from independent stores.

Edit : okay fine not only out of necessity, I’ve stolen nice wine as well and chocolates too, but I had a necessity for luxury at the time let’s say, some degree of luxury is essential to my mood when I have had a bad day. Again, only ever from massive chains.

I often find myself in gray areas.

Mostly, I live day to day in accordance to local/state/federal laws as the majority of people do.
Certain lifestyle decisions put me in a position where I'm knowingly and willingly breaking certain laws. Violating certain laws is advantageous from the point of view of others following the same "tradition".

What is legal and what is right are sometimes different. But often what is wrong is also illegal, but it may be beneficial to you enough that both morality and legality can be overlooked.

He breaks the Scandinavian laws of permissible thought with unpermissible thoughts.

"as per law" means he must know the permissible before engaging in the unpermissible which is all that is not permissible.

edit

Or Scandinavians only allows certain thought crimes as written in their law. Certain government services may be denied instead of criminal charges.
