I like avatars, everyone does, just some of them are, let's say painful to the eyes and mind. Looking at them is akin to a soft core mind-rape.

So let's have a poll for avatar quality control. I expect nothing to come of this, I'm just curious how many among us are mildly perturbed by having to view certain avatars.

I voted who cares because there was no option that truly fit my opinion.

I don't tend to have avatars that offend but I don't have any real problem with those that do. I assume most INTPs are less likely to take offense at imagery that would bother other people. It takes us recognizing our emotional reactions to an image and then getting up the energy to do something about it. I figure if I see an icon that bothers me I don't look at it. Alright, I suppose super extreme stuff is irritating such as outright nudity or explicit sex acts. That just bothers me because it's so intensely personal but where do we draw the line? If it is a question of the prudes in our midst taking over the avatar protocol I vote no. Of all the months I've been here I honestly haven't seen a single avatar that bothered me. I don't see a reason to regulate any more than it already is.

Meh.

people can put up art, buildings, people, pets, whatever they feel like. why restrict that? razare, what did you see that offended or shocked you enough to warrant a thread of its own? to partly agree with you, the google one with the big boobs is unpleasant and and misogynist and plain embarrassing for the person who set up that account. but barring someone showing christ on fire or something analogously disgusting, lets revel in the lack of censorship.

razare, give me - and other forum goers - a cogent reason why we should listen to you on this!

Everyone should just put a photo of themselves.

That's...so very boring. No, I enjoy the enigma and creative outlet that avatars provide.

I don't care about your rhetoric. Everyone who can read between the lines can see that you apparently have a problem with one or more avatars on this forum. Why you try to hide that behind a censorship thread is beyond me. In any case I can only recommend you to talk to the respective owner or owners. Alternatively you can simply turn off the avatar function or you can try to filter it with adblock or so.

I think I can speak for all admins when I say that we want to minimize any kind of censorship and that the forum rules apply to avatars as well. Not to mention that I doubt anyone of us wants to play art critic.

Censorship = Hitler? :p

Meh, I vote 'who cares'. Although I would like to see a smaller size limit. Some are just too big imo. Content doesn't bother me though.

Though I am now curious which ones are raping your mind.

Let's say I find one particularly "inappropriate". ;)

I'm half-kidding on this, anyway. Just someone said something in another thread about the disgusting avatars people had in that post, and I kinda agreed. Don't worry, I can deal.

Was just curious if it was a problem for others, that's why I made the poll.

Just get addblock for your browser and add the avatar URL you dislike to the blacklist.

I assume the administration here is a lot more loose then the admin team I work with, so I'll likely be seen as too strict. I am simply bothered by the fact that the avatar pictures can be so damn big. I think they should be regulated to be a certain size. Either way, I think you should censor overtly offensive avatars. However, I have not seen any of that nature on here as of yet.

I'm horrified, but it's art, I call it art because it horrifies me.

To represent oneself like this, despite being able to find innumerable beautiful avatars from across the net, strikes me as a noble outcry against the superficiality of society, a visual sarcastic-satire of hypocritical sensibilities.
This is true art.

avatar2489_37.gif

While this is just angst over my ineptitude with emotions.
Pathetic really, but pretty imo.

What a funny thread.

IB - put some clothes on that abomination!

I'm still scarred by the innocent little girl eating a hot-dog... appeared in someone's signature clip.... Thanks Razare ;)

(I'm certain that large avatars detract from meaningful discourse. *coughs*)

Excuse me... I have pretty colours my short attention-span must chase.

I don't see what's the problem with any avatar as long as it doesn't violate the guidelines of common sense. (ie. no pornographic, illegal content, things of that sort)

Anyone with a grain of reason should be able to figure out what's permissible or not on a certain board.

Can't say I would put any weight on offended aesthetic sensibilities.

But no, as it's already evident I don't have a problem with any avatars, I like the disturbing.

I'm just flabbergasted IB hasn't shown up yet to giggle with glee over this whole issue...gods know I would have by now.

Edit: Ooo! Maybe our next "Avatar Theme Contest" should be soft core mind rape!

Here, I'll help...

DON'T LOOK!
Gross1.jpg

I warned you.

My avatar starting next month. :coverlaugh:

Alright, I'm going to point out a few very simple things to you Razare.

Something like you have in the spoiler actually doesn't bother me, I wouldn't delete or moderate that myself as it's simply another reality to me, but would certainly understand if it were switched out or deleted by one of the other Admins.

However, if you're going to post a picture such as that you're going to be required to put a satisfactory warning for those at work or in other places (such as "NSFW") where they may not be able to have such pictures visible.
Of course, I will put this warning into your post myself this time.

If you're offended by somebody having an overweight avatar that's showing a little skin you can get Adblock and have control over blocking avatars at your own discretion, as well you can shut off avatars by going to UserCP>Edit Options>and press the 'Show Avatars' button to the unmarked setting.
I would recommend this for work situations if you're worried about the quality of other's avatars.

Most importantly, exaggerating the problem or comparing something like a picture such as a ballerina/sumo or a poor drawing of a fat man as nearly equivalent to a gory picture of somebody's head torn, opened up and showing brain maggots is not the way to make a logical argument or to acquire respect from anybody.

Placing an abrasive pic as your avatar for the sake of attempting to disgust people in an act of disrespect is different than having a picture that certain over-sensitive individuals decide they dislike. I would consider you choosing an avatar like that trolling and would have no trouble with punishing such an act without mercy.

Please remember that you're one opinion amongst many on a forum that you have no right to.
The Administration will remove anything that we believe is disrupting the forum and will react according to what we believe is best for the forum.

Actually no, you don't seem strict exactly.

I've observed how moderation is performed on the INFJ forum and seen bickering between Moderators within the public section of the forum with users joining in and little getting resolved, closing of entire threads because a couple of people are doing something undesirable within it, users kicked out of threads permanently for jokes that mildly offend the thread starter, Moderators being baited by trolls instead of taking action, and lack of strict/effective enforcement (such as permanent bans) that leads to people coming back multiple times to do the same things over and over again.

Now it's your opinion, and you being an Administrator on there, it's also your prerogative, but I can say that I wouldn't post on that forum for the very reason that I don't trust the moderation is impartial or effective and certainly have no desire to emulate such a thing.

Not that I mean any offense, I'm sure there are many that would prefer your moderation style after all
.

Wait, is Razare seriouz buisnezz?

Offended by people's avatars I am not. I must admit some are displeasing to the eye, but I don't really care for banning anything that I don't like, so..

Edit: Ooo! Maybe our next "Avatar Theme Contest" should be soft core mind rape!

You know I'm down on that! Do we get to choose our vict.. models?!?

No theme contests, make it goal orientated, dinosaurs for example is a theme, finding the most subtly disturbing avatar would be a goal orientated competition, it would allow for the freedom of personal interpretation of the objective.

Actually, I like both theme and goal oriented contests. I don't really care who wins, I just like the consistency.

You could just ignore me and thus deny me the attention I so obviously crave, unless of course you think I'm double-thinking you into thinking that, then perhaps this message is an attempt to triple-think you into double-thinking me, or an ingenious ploy to make you quadruple-think me into thinking you’ve out-thought me, when in reality you’re just doing what I want.

Or are you?

Pardon me but I had a most busy weekend. Ahem.

So.....sumo-ballerinna is soft core mind rape. Sweeeeeet! I thought it was kinda funny and maybe a little too cute for me. I kinda miss my pig. Perhaps a combination of the two?

I'm not giving any NSFW warnings, if this gets you fired you really need a new job anyway:

Ballerina.jpg

So what kind of rape would this ^^ be?

Can I use it people?
So not serious about using it but the question is valid apparently

When you originally changed your old avatar to your current one I thought it was a little disconcertingly cute for you but it has grown on me. I do miss the old one from time to time though. It gave your comments more...punch?

I actually liked the pig better than the ballerina. The pig was more like I imagined IB to be.

You know I said more than once that I do kinda look like that pig avatar. I wasn't really joking, especially after I shaved my head last week and even more especially after a few hours cooking. Nose and ears are a little different.
