I'm a mesomorph. It kind of sucks that my abdomen is always covered by a 5 mm layer of fat. Just enough so you can't see any real muscle. I'm not fat, I'm not even a little fat, but yeah, eh. I've been working out for about 6 months now, and my arms have gotten noticeably bigger, and I've gotten a bit more chest and abdomen muscles, but I don't think I'll ever get a visible 'six pack'. I just can't get that eternal 5 mm layer of fat on my belly away.

Does that sound mesomorphish?

Yes, your very similar to me in that respect because I regularly exercise and am in good shape but there is always that little bit of fat there, but then again, i'm not the healthiest eater in the world so that could be my problem.

You should add a poll (at the top, under Thread Tools). I think you can still do it.

Hehe, yeah, I'm the same way. Lately I've also skipped going to the gym a few times because I'm busy with exams... I feel filthier every day.

I think the thing for mesomorphs like us is mainly to train the upper body, so that little layer of fat on the waist isn't too noticeable.

I'm 5'6 and 193lbs. I never worked out to be physically appealing; I wanted to be able to crush melons, fight bears, and frighten the elderly. I've always been muscular with a dash of fat.

Hard time saying, i have read about these types a little when i was younger but was never really into it.

I would say i am an ectomorph that retains mesomorphic traits, or i am just a really unhealthy mesomorph. I have a very poor diet and i never work out, but my arms have always been kind of tone and the actual shape of my muscle, especially my bicep, insists mesomorph.

I am a mesomorph with a beer belly!!

Also I love that hardly anyone voted endomorph. For being a bunch of nerds who sit at our computer all day, we have really healthy body-images. :)

I'm a mesomorph, however I don't really excercise much so I'm somewhere between that and endo, still leaning on the mesomorph side, I'm 5'9" and 150-60lbs I haven't gone above or below that in almost 5 years

um. mesomorph i guess? i don't know?

i don't know, i remember learning about "body types" in my PAN (PE - Activity & Nutrition! stupidest class ever) class and thinking, this is just a little bit too vague. it doesn't really cover the range of body types there actually is, it's just a slightly more PC way to say "this person is fat, this person is skinny, and this person is muscular".

i am not particularly fat, particularly skinny, and i'm definitely not muscular. i'm just basically average sized, i've got my pudge but it's not enough to really care about.

so yeah.

Mesomorph, even though I eat stupidly (Ice cream or PB&J for breakfast?) and never get any physical activity.

A lot more of us are probably ectomorph. After looking into it more, i am probably one. If you are skinny, and stay skinny more or less no matter what, you are an ectomorph. This doesnt mean you are going to be a pencil though, dont be fooled into thinking you are necessarily mesomorph if you are naturally toned or have been working out and notice results. It is entirely possible for ectomorphs to build muscle. Look at images of Frank Zane, believe it or not, he is characterized as an ectomorph.

Really hard to say though.. there is a fine line to be drawn when you have to decide between meso and ecto, there isnt as much distinction as there is between endo and the other types. I may be Meso, starting to lose interest again :P

Frank Zane is a lucky bastard.
Once you have some muscles as an ectomorph, it's very hard to lose them. And apparently ectomorphs don't really gain fat easily either...
The best is probably to be a bit of a crossover between an ecto- and mesomorph. I'm definitely not an ectomorph as I've never been toned, but I've never been naturally fat, either. So I'm a mesomorph. I can see how I could become fat though, if I stopped exercising, stopped growing(which I inevitably will within the next 3 years or so), and got a bit of a lazy job I'd be fat within a few years.

mesomorph's the typical athletic body type right? gains muscle easily?

if so that's what I am. People tell me I look like I play sports, although I hate sports.

I don't know, and isn't this nonsense anyway? But assuming it's just for fun, I'm not really sure. I don't gain muscle easily, or maybe I do, I wouldn't know because I don't really do anything remotely physical except digest and breathe. I don't know how easily I put on weight because I never eat enough to put any on, but I suppose I find it harder to lose than to gain weight. I have a very narrow waist, a slender torso generally, wide hips and quite broad shoulders, and very long but quite sturdy and muscular limbs. What am I?

Saying someone is endomorph, mesomorph or ectomorph is incorrect classification, it's more complicated than that. Each of the listed body types are extremes, there are very few people who fall solely into one category. We are all part endo, part meso and part ecto. The method (somatotype) grades a body on each body type, using a score of one to seven eg. 4-2-6. Not that it really matters, it's a pretty limited and generalisedd system.

Constitutional psychology is rather more interesting, whatever its validity.

My body has the same shape. I think the slender waist thing is just because we don't really have a lot of muscle. When I work out, I can see my waist getting more masculine over time, causing the illusion of wide hips to disappear.

I think you're a mesomorph.

Sammael is right though, people barely fit exactly into one category, but it's okay to generalize a little, I think.

Ectomorph.

The Wikipedia page suggests that there has been a hypothesised relationship between body type and personality. There is probably some degree of truth to this, due to hormonal differences for example (someone who understands human biology can expand on the reasons for correlation), as well as reinforcements from social conditioning. And of course, your focus in life will determine what you pay attention to with regards to your body, and so there is the connection from that.

^Skeleton with skin?

Pretty clear cut meso. I'm the odd athlegeek; made first cuts without trying for track team on accident in middle school, perform well in wrestling/rock climbing. My fat always collects on the belly, though, just chilling... I don't push hard to get rid of it, I think real humans are sexier than fake ones. I like being in shape, not being a manequin.

I'm a fairly healthy eater most of the time (I make most of my food from scratch, and don't use sugar, drink lots of water, eat oatmeal on a regular basis, only use whole grains), but I have an overeating habit--which is usually ok, since I'm pretty stinkin' active, but it annoys me. I just really, really like food. And I tend to procrastineat.

^Skeleton with skin?

Was this directed at me? I'm assuming that it was since "skinny-fat" doesn't seem "skeletal" to me, hehe.

But yes, pretty much. I'm not anorexic. Not at all, I love food. But I just don't gain any weight at all. I'm about 185cm and I weigh 50-55kg. It's a little while since I weighed myself, but I always swim around between those two. If I still remember how to calculate BMI, it's about 14 or something. So yeah, according to BMI; I'm pretty much a skeleton. It kind of sucks.

Ectomorph.

Yeah, I've read something about this too.

yeyel.png

In this picture the vicerotonic would be the endomorph, the musculotonic the mesomorph and the cerebrotonic the ectomorph.

I am an ectomorph, or a typical example of a cerebrotonic.

"Those extreme cases who take their heaviest imprint on the third circuit tend to grow up cerebrotonic. They are tall and skinny, because energy is perpetually drawn upward from the body into the head. The caricatured evil genius, Dr. Syvlanus in Superman, who was virtually all head, represents the extreme toward which this type seems to be evolving. Popular speech calls them "eggheads."
Almost always, these cerebrotonic Third-Circuit types ignore or are hostile to their first and second circuit functions. Playful- ness puzzles them (appears silly or eccentric) and emotions both baffle and frighten them."

This obviously needs to be read with a pinch of salt, but it's a fun read and the correlation between my body type and the personality description seem strikingly accurate in my particular instance at least.

You're an Ectomorph? You look very "bulky" to me. As muscles bulky, Mesomoprh.
Glad you get that impression, but it is far from the truth. I'm around 195cm high, I think, and weigh around 60-65 kg. I don't think that classifies as bulky, lol. I recently began working out though, so hopefully my weight will increase somewhat.

I'm pretty sure I'm Mesomorph, I just lack the rippage. Everyone who knows me constantly recommends me for professional sports(football especially).

Wow. Those drawings are really bad. Damn. They're so badly stylized. I don't believe in the explanation of them much, either. I think it's mostly just stereotypes. Although it holds some vague, variable truth I guess.

It's probably part of the whole racist anthropometry thing that was so popular at the time. They loved measuring people and then saying why that meant they were inferior. "Strong, white Americans building strong, white cities! Progress and cleanliness through industry! Healthy, good-shaped minds in healthy, good-shaped bodies! America!"

Yea, I think I'm meso but I'm not ripped like all the images on the net. Not to mention you get that from working out, i.e. it's artificial.

Are somatypes supposed to be software or hardware? I've done some reading but I can't really tell.

Yeah me too. But I don't like litterally looking anorexic. My spine's sticking out as if I'm Gollum. Same goes for my elbow, collar, hip, knee etc. Bones. They really, all stick out. Except for my face, I don't look "skinny" in my face. At least I don't think so.

A funny thing actually. I was talking to a guy I hadn't met for a while and he said something along the lines of "Still keeping the shape, eh?" Meant as a joke. And then we compared my tri/biceps (Upper arm? The name completely slipped me.) With his wrist. And his wrist was bigger than my 'briceps' And he's not even bulky/big. Oh well..
