To Cognisant's dismay, who was it that first bound religion with the geometry of a triangle and square? Rook may be more knowledgeable than I in that regard. At any rate there is indeed a religious bias or meaning to the shapes that we see in everyday life, as we know the rightmost shapes are both "crosses" as used by Catholic heraldry and the greater Christianity during the middle ages and beyond.

Going back to freemasonry though, they are known for their square and compass(may be translated to square and circle), the symbology is made by imposing two triangles on top of another.
Looking at it I am reminded of the alchemical saying, As it is above, so it is below.
