today i started guitar classes at the university i go to. the guitar my parents bought is acoustic which should work till i have the money for an electric. if i pull my head out of my back side and study/practice i should do well in this and my other classes. when i was younger i wanted to play the violin but my parents got me the guitar. i like both. perhaps this will even help me get women! probably not though.

When I was in junior school, we used to get a sheet of paper, and we could pick which instruments we wanted to learn, and I ended up trying out almost every instrument on that list, but I kept quitting as soon as I got bored... =/

I wish I'd stuck at a few of them now, and I might try and properly learn some of them in the future, but I'm not sure for now.

I tried the violin, piano, drums, ocarina, recorder, guitar, and a few others that I can't remember off the top of my head, and I'm fairly sure that I was equally rubbish in all of them.

(It was fun trying them out though =) )

(Edit: I wasn't sure if singing counted, but that's the one thing I've ended up sticking at, although I did start learning it much later, but that's on the list of things I've tried too)

I've tried piano, guitar and bass but I don't have the finger dexterity for any of them. Also, for guitars the strings and frets are far too close together, and for bass the strings and frets are too far away and the strings are too hard to keep pressed firmly to not make a buzzing sound.

I used to have a rudimentary knowledge of music theory, but I cannot for the life of me discern notes or chords from one another. I am tone deaf.

FYI, Being able to play guitar won't get you women. Being musical for your personal benefit, not to charm girls, is what is attractive.

I can play guitar, bass (somewhat), piano, and I can kind of sing. And I want to learn how to play the cello, sitar, and violin.

I've been teaching myself to play guitar, and I'm really considering teaching myself piano also. I can't afford lessons, and my sister (who is insanely musically oriented) moved across the country just as I became interested in music. That's probably for the better, since I can't stand practicing around people, though.

My dad is a piano tuner and I can't get to a piano or anyone who plays it...irony at it's finest.

Guitar and singing. Bit of piano.

Other than singing, everything was self-taught. I haven't played the guitar for years, but I played last night and I couldn't believe what I was missing (besides the pain! ;) ). Think I'll sacrifice the nails for the guitar after all...

I can play guitar! I'm a bit out of practice, and I'm nothing special, but I used to play and sing in a band called The Real Revolvers.

I also used to play bass for a band called Way To Go Maurice.

I currently work with a program called Fruity Loops to make video game music (and other nice little diddies) for a game I'm working on. And my best friend uses me as his "guest singer" for pretty much everything he writes and records out of compulsion. Hahahaha. And the old drummer from RR as his "guest drummer." Maybe we never broke up?

Outside your window.
I used to play flute but got bored with it when I hit grade 10 (I had played for 5 years up to that point). Now I can play piano quite well, which is self-taught and a little bit of guitar from when I studied music in junior school.

I can play the piano poorly and need to get back to that.

I umm also was forced to ahh learn the accordion when I was a helpless child and can still bang out one or two tunes on it.

Like a lot of us I can't seem to keep up the interest once I reach some very rudimentary level of competency. "Oh, that's how it works? Meh."

I played the bass for 6 months and got bored. Then I started to play the drums which i really like but can't find barely any songs that I like that people have tabbed so I don't play as much as I would like to.:(

...of the coolest type! INTP could be the acronym for our band's name! Any ideas, anyone?

It's too bad we're not all INTJs. INTJ makes me think of the word 'integer', which would be a very cool name for a band...'The Integers'.

What about 'the Interpols'?

edit: The Interpolations seems more fitting...

Interpol is already taken. The Interpolations would definitely be nice for a band title.

I play the guitar; took it very seriously and put a lot of passion into it for a long time, although unfortunately I don't get the same thrill out of it that I used to. I think it may be an INTP thing? Once I became satisfied with my level of playing (even though that took me a long time to reach...), I didn't have quite the same drive to pick up the guitar anymore. I was always quite an introverted guitarist though - I loved performing but was for the most part a bedroom guitarist, more intent on getting good than getting out there.

It will help :D People do respect you more if you're a muso... if I didn't play guitar and rugby in high school, people probably would have thought I was a freak.

I've wanted to start a band with one of those "adjective noun" type names for a while. lol You always hear those kinds of names in movies and television, and they alway crack me up. Like Derogatory Pallet or Predetermined Fate. They're so incredibly melodramatic that they make me laugh. And it's always some teenage son's band in the stories wherein they appear. I'd love to be in a really kick ass band with a melodramatic name. There are plenty of bands with "a/n" names that are perfectly appropriate and/or not melodramatic, but few times will you find one with a name like the ones above that you're not able to tell what they sound like just by hearing their name. Come to think of it, the only times I've actually heard names like that in rl has been at local shows! Oooooh I wish I could start one!

I once hawked an electric guitar from a pawn shop.

I did what any self respecting 100% Red American Nedreck male would do.

I started strumming on it having no idea what I was doing.

I broke the string.

Yozuki is a sad Yozuki.

I play guitar like a lot of people here do. I self-teach, because I wasn't patient enough with lessons. I'm not technically skilled in the fact that I don't know the names of most of the chords I play, but I experiment a lot with riffs and chord sequences.
There are tons of instruments on my 'to play' list, like accordion, cello, harmonica, mandolin, drums.. but I doubt I'll get around to playing any of them :D

Well, I've been playing the guitar since August (8 months or so now, iirc) and I've been playing the cello for about 6 years. I can also sing, which you may know if you listen to the musical snapvine.

I wish I had a decent mic to record on, though... :(

I've been playing guitar for about 6 years (2 years seriously)

I'm currently a guitar teacher and I'm also in a band that is trying to get up of its arse and play some places.
