I just saw it tonight. It's somewhat meh, but pretty good and quite shiny. I didn't know a pretty fair number of the references, though. The weird thing is just how it somehow fills an hour and a half even though very little actually happens.

That didn't sound like a good review.... hmmmm.... I guess it was visually stunning with a stinky plot?

I wouldn't say the plot was bad, I'm just not quite sure how exactly that filled an hour and a half. Like, strictly speaking, just in terms of events happening, I don't understand how that spanned an hour and a half.

Loved it.

I didn't go into the movie expecting to be intellectually marveled. Nor do I know much of any of the old movie/books. It has been probably over 15 years since I watched it.

As Latro said, a lot of the references were lost on me.

The sheer power of each character's personality was brilliant.

That much is true. Characterization is fantastic, which is probably where a lot of the aforementioned time went.

I'm going to see it on Monday probably, do you really have to know the original Alice in Wonderland to understand the movie (it's been a while since I viewed the oldest one) I know a lot of references were made, but did it make the movie hard to follow if you didn't have these references beforehand?

I didn't think so, really. There are a LOT of things that are very obviously references that I didn't catch, but they don't make the plot all that hard to follow...at least not really any harder to follow than it's supposed to be. (And I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be pretty hard to follow).

i just saw it like, half an hour ago. i'm honestly not familiar with the story (never saw the old movie, never read the books) but i'm a huge depp/burton fan, so, you know, i had to.

i thought it was kind of amazing. the visual effects were stunning, the characterization was awesome, and it was just all around a great movie.

but i may have a bias because that's the first time i ever had anything that was similar to depth perception... obviously it was just an optical illusion, but still. now i'm a little depressed. feels like i'm missing out.

oh well. highly recommended.

I saw Avatar in 3D too. Gotta love it!

Probably the best part w/ the 3D in Alice in Wonderland imo was when the camera pans and it shows the Droplet of water and the distortion of the characters walking along the path, that was cooooooool.

Ooh, I'm excited for this movie. I'm seeing it a little later tonight with a friend, hopefully in 3D! Even if the plot falls a little short, I'm sure the acting and the effects (which look amazing) will make up for it.

Edit: Eh, scratch that, plans got cancelled. Will let you know my opinion when I see it.

I saw it in 3D(not so much difference). It is great as a fantasy film with several hidden meanings. And it is definitely worth the watch(as is everything else); though, not the most remarkable film made.

The movie showed the wishful side of fantasy. I like the idea of interpreting impossibilities as possibilities; this really opens so much wider range of more possibilities.

Any thoughts on the characters' type?

Alice: INFP
Madhatter: ENTP
Cat: ENTP
Worm: INTP
White queen: ENFP

I think the movie itself is NFP.

heh, I actually saw this today, in 3D also. Visually, I thought it was stunning, although that may be partially due to the fact that I haven't seen many movies in 3D. Perhaps if I saw more I wouldn't be so amazed by it. The visuals definitely made an okay movie into a good one, imo.

As far as the story/plot, it was okay. There were interesting moments, but there were also plenty of meh ones too. Knowing very little about the original story,
I was kinda hoping Alice would resist the need to complete the narrative of slaying the dragon and instead create her own journey. I was a bit disappointed that she basically let everyone tell her what to do, although I guess I just like rebellious characters. It just made the ending seem too predictable. You knew she would slay the dragon and all would be well, blah. I was hoping for more chaos and less predictability. This is why no story I create will ever be made into a popular children's movie, lol.

On the plus side, she was kinda hot and an overall likable character (tbh, she seemed very INTP at times, though I'm not sure I would type her as such), and there were some funny moments involving the queen, the cat, and the Madhatter. The visuals, the characters, and the overall fantasy element make this worth watching, but I wouldn't care to see it again.

i quite liked the actress that played alice, probably only because she was one of my favorite characters on an HBO series that i saw recently (in treatment -- about a therapist and his patients. she was the crazy gymnast that tried to kill herself). so, yeah. of course it was a bit predictable, but honestly, if you don't think about it too much and just let yourself enjoy it, it can be truly fantastic. and trust me, i understand about being critical of movies... but this one,i wouldn't let myself. it was just fun. that's all it's supposed to be, fun.

^ Well yes, when I watch movies I'm not thinking "is this good?", I just try to enjoy it. It's afterwards that I become critical, but I don't suppose that matters as long as it was fun, which is why I'd still recommend it.
