During my exploits, I happened upon 'The Elusive Chickens and The Bass Drop', a thread on this very board in which some people suggested there may be such a thing as good dubstep. (@Cognisant)

Now, I am no judgemental person, so I will allow this kind of statement without attempting to destroy the universe or perform brain-surgery on self. Instead, I would like to see some examples of this mentioned "good dubstep" to expand my horizons, and I bet some of you people would also be interested. Any of you know any?

I AM IN FAVOUR. There is good dubstep, and I do enjoy listening to it. I do realise that quite some of it may get bashed, I honestly do not give a fuck. Also, some of it requires certain moods or getting into. It's preferance, whelp. But it's not all too bad, imo.

Alright, trying to keep the spam of songs to a minimal, and trying to make them sound diffrent (even within a spoiler). Each spoiler is to me a majorly diffrent kind.

Before the arguments in regards to what is and what isn't dubstep goes : If you prefer not to call any of these songs dubstep, then that's fine by me. Based on bps and such, this is all dubstep except for the very last spoiler (neurofunk is dnb)

Relax stuff :

less relax but still good and 'less conventional' stuff
oldschool, what you people would consider dubstep. I rarely listen to these, but I do not find them bad at all!

Dark neurofunk, wouldn't exactly call this dubstep (it's actually dnb), but I can't resist posting it because I feel some of you drunken dark people might love it.

I made two playlists, 10 tracks each. One for the newer stuff that tends to have drops and heavy bass, and older stuff that was more focused on the chill atmosphere. As an introduction, you'll probably like the older better.

older dubstep: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF8FAGYlR-YpgRePetcGmxigj-AFyTBKc

newer dubstep: http://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLF8FAGYlR-Yq6ZhOvTl2qvkzzPZ5_1bke

Artists:

Datsik
Flux Pavillion
Digital Mystikz
Excision
FuntCase
Ganja White Night

-will be updating with links-

Most of the videos I posted are from artists most people here will have never heard of (and probably will never hear from again), however, I do listen to 'popular' dubstep at times... Not often, but I do. And some songs are indeed good, tho I think you must get into them. (Also dnb is simply better, generally speaking. Preferance, ofcourse!)

What are you talking about? All these guys were out when dubstep was still underground.

Yes. And then half of them got popular and their music quality, in my honest opinion, does not exceed those who are still unknown. Then again, as always, preferance and opinion. I listened around the time it started rising, due to it being pretty much the next logical step from dnb?

these three quite some 2 / 3 years ago, and i've heard songs from all 6 artists you mentioned. I do not find them bad at all, I just wish they wouldn't have gotten so popular. I never ever stated they're bad, I just do not find them better than many of the more underground artists. Feel free to post songs that will convince me otherwise, I'm not hating on dubstep, I listen to it myself... Whelp.

Lol that's your problem. I'm not posting them for you, I'm posting them for OP, and the way you jumped on my first post was like you had something to prove.

Anyway, I updated my post with the links. Click here or scroll up.

Well that's how it was perceived.

I'm all for quality music and I know what it's like to prefer the underground to popular stuff... but without listening to the songs I was gonna post, or even seeing their names, you already dismissed them.

That was just being presumptuous, and I'm not really in the mood to deal with that. It's cool though, was just a misunderstanding I suppose.

I am plesently surprised actually.

I don't think I'll ever be able to understand and appreciate those noise-loops, but other than that, innovating drumming, dreamy synths, interesting melodies and so on.

Minus-points would on the other hand be the pointless bickering about who's the biggest hipster. ;)

I'm not going to deny that it is at least more interesting than the repetitive 'BOOM. BAP, BOOM BOOM BAP' of generic pop/rock music, but it's hardly innovative.

Always the pessimist.

But sure, you are right. Guess I'm not used to this spectrum whatsoever.

I am old.

I just don't get it. This stuff reminds me of "doing it to death" by james brown.

I listen to it and think I have never felt like this ever. People really feel like this? I never have nor would I want to. I would kick my ass if i felt like that. Just slam my balls in a drawer until i wanted to listen to something like Viovod.

I can't facepalm myself enough for my ignorance in the thread. I had been listening to more of it this year and now I realize the differences between the production/quality of various producers and what people refer to as "dubstep".

Apparently there are a lot of misconceptions surrounding the genre, many of which I held myself, which is unfortunate due to its fad status. After delving into more of genre it only grew on me further to the point that it's definitely one of my favorite types of music now.

I haven't listened to everything out there but from what I have heard:

Highlights of 2013:

Current all-time favorites:
Mala - New Life (Baby Paris) (S)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gt4JwuCuiRA

Kahn - Dread (S)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2aPh3ZHFE9M

Planas - Roots Music
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nzK7zJMUWYQ

S = Sounds a million times better with subwoofers

Clearlight - Circular Thinking EP

The whole EP is fire, I noticed he's great at creating atmospheres.

Quest makes very deep and atmospheric music, with a bit of punch to keep it interesting.

Three of these stand out the most imo. "Visitors" which has a spacey alien vibe, "Dubfoot" with it's subtle buildup and haunting peak, and "Deep Inside" which takes you on a musical journey into the jungles of dub.

Also worth mentioning is this '80s funk/pop filled track:
Bok Bok - Melba's Call (feat. Kelela)
