    Hello Auburn. I remember reading somewhere that you say that you are pretty even on the T/F slide (if it makes sense to look at it like that) . Anyway, I was wondering how you regarded yourself on S/N?
    It's just an attempt to keep my attention focused on employment through autosuggestion .
    Hopefully it counteracts my tendency to become distracted.
    Oh, yeah they give a strange ordering/classification compared to MBTI =/ . e.g. They say LII has conscious Ti and Ne, and weak conscious Fi and Se, but don't have conscious Fe or Si - rather, they value these things so try to incorporate them into how they deal with things, perhaps largely based on those who do consciously use them.

    What does ordering imply exactly? That we have consider a particular function first, then another one second and so on (as opposed to a disconnectable role played by each function)?

    Which pairings do you mean? That they don't pair e.g. Ti with Fe intrapersonally (one's own psyche), or that they do pair Ti with Fe interpersonally (person to person interaction, their 'dual' theory).

    (I'm not sure exactly what the workings are to the model)
    you know, with socionics I did always relate most to the ILE profile. heh. did you find socionics to be more accurate than MBTI? (in terms of how they explain each type)

    Currently battling the elite four. Lost about five times already, but getting stronger every time! :D

    I swear, they're much harder in the remake. They have like two full restores per Pokemon and the best luck ever when it comes to status ailments, critical hits or accuracy. o-o And they all have berries!

    That's okay, though waiting until it's done eleminates my desire to help :p But I fully understand the feeling that one prefer to wait releasing information until everything is ready and in order.

    Hell Auburn :) I can't help but feel interested in your try to map out functions. If you would be interested, I would love to hear your current ideas, and give my feedback :)
    I may have been mistaken: Jung actually wrote "Directed thinking or, as we might also call it, thinking in words..." - and from what I understand, language is associated with use of the Pi/Je functions (is this correct? and does the following represent adaptive functions? or is this a separate thing?).

    "What happens when we do not think directedly? Well, our thinking then lacks all leading ideas and the sense of direction emanating them. We no longer compel our thoughts along a definite track, but let them float sink or rise according to their specific gravity ... an "automatic play of ideas"."
    yeah, I certainly agree with the significance of the division between those two styles, though I'm never quite sure how to refer to them. I would say P functions and J functions, but those letters were awkwardly chosen from the start since the reader would naturally assume "P = perception, J = judgement, so he must mean perception functions and judgement functions". Adaptive/directive clears this up, but then on second thought may suffer from the same problem.
    hm, ok. I was asking because I think you likened perception to a "flowing stream" or similar, and Jung had said the same thing about adaptive thinking (though I don't know if the adaptive/directive bit I had seen in Jung was a reference to typology or not - I'll have to find it again and give it a better read through).

    By 'definition', is this the definitions as given, or the definition of adaptive/directive in general?

    do you agree that the terms directive vs adaptive would actually be better suited to judgement led vs perception led processes? i.e. that the INTP's Ti-Ne is directive (directed, towards a goal*), and the Si-Fe is adaptive (associative, no set goal), rather than being the other way around?

    * I may be conceptualising directive and adaptive in the wrong way here, though I think that's basically what Jung said about it

    To summarize, functions are binary. So I agree with you that Fe is "polar" to Dominant Ti, but this polarity implies something psychological and behavioral which I think is worth looking into.

    What I meant earlier by cosmetic function ordering is that MBTI only shows you 4 functions but all 8 logically follow from any 2. So it doesn't really matter unless you give meaning to the positions, but in so doing it's necessary to have all 8.
    Alright, reliance on personal observations makes a lot of sense to me and I think most problems and disagreements could be solved with the acknowledgement of that dichotomy, it's really fundamental. The natural path from here(in terms of principles) would be in the direction of Socionics, and although I do consider it a development in typology, it has its faults also.

    As for the function ordering, it's mostly cosmetic. I'll demonstrate why in a second response with a quote from Jung.

    How did you come to that understanding?

    Oh and if you agree with that, Jung's Psychological Types would definitely be of use. Function ordering in Socionics means something totally different so I think it's okay to have disagreements there.
