Joker was
unfettered in contrast to the
fettered Batman.
It's a really dark, twisted exploration of nihilism.... well, primitive nihilism, case in point being the part when Joker tells Batman that he's not going to kill him, I believe the line was "you complete me". In that way it was more like atheism than actual nihilism, with the values of society, justice in particular, being the gods held up (by Batman) for the Joker to cast down. Whereas an actual nihilist who has given the philosophical stance due consideration would be more inclined to reform society by altering its philosophical foundations so that it functions in a way that better coheres with reality.
Communism for example was a wonderful idea, still is in fact, but it doesn’t cohere with reality very well, because the many have to put a great deal of trust in the few, who frankly have everything to gain by betraying that trust and little to no fear of consequence if they do.
Capitalism & Democracy aren’t much better, they’re arguably worse.
