well, are you the type that can predict every note that your gonna hear but it sounds so damn good and so irrestably catchy that you can't help but feel the utmost reverence and praise for the masterpiece?

Or, do you admire originality in music and cringe and wish you could recompose the song when you can predict every next note in a song that you've never even heard before!!! Or, even go so far as to realize when a song is forcefully deviant!!! When every note is purposefully unpredicatable (but in a boolean way) to the point of annoyance!!!

Well, there's a lot of noise on the radio, but if you're talking about music: transcendent!

I like music where I can predict it 1 out of four or three times, but then it changes sometimes too. Having no pattern is just as boring as having a super simple pattern, if you can never predict the note, then you could always predict not being able to predict the note, making it predictable. So, it needs to be partially predicatble but not always. I like beethoven and bach and haydin (probably spelled haydin wrong though).

Music has to either have very high polyphony, or tell a story. If the melody paints a picture, especially without lyrics, it is automatically awesome.

I like rap music by Immortal Technique. His metaphors are amazing.

Jazz music is fun to listen along with because it's improvisational but still based on certain standards. You can listen to wildly different manifestations of the same catchy tune or series of chords. I sometimes scat or sing an improvised additional line when I listen.

I much prefer music which is intricate and unpredictable such as live experimental jazz. Something which pushes or transcends the boundaries of music.
When listening on headphones (my preferred way), artists such as these:
Frank Zappa
Adrian Belew
Robert Fripp
Brian Eno
NIN
Diamanda Galas
Sopor Aeternus
Miles Davis
Jaco Pastorius
Thelonious Monk
John Cage (also reading his books, lectures, and writings)
Keith Jarret
John Mclaughlin
Shpongle

I like music that is complex with interesting harmonies and many unique instrumental parts overlapping in the background. This must occur in an orderly way, but not necessarily in a predictable way. I don't like chaotic noise, but I don't like music that is boring in its simplicity unless that simplicity is for a specific purpose. It has to make me feel something, and there has to be beauty in it. If it does not appeal to me on an intellectual, emotional, or spiritual level, there is no point in listening to it.

As much as I like long instrumental parts in music, a very important part of music for me is the lyrics. If the lyrics aren't meaningful or well thought-out, then it usually ruins the song for me. That's not to say I don't also appreciate instrumental music, I just prefer lyrics. But I don't think there's really a pattern to what type of instrumental music I like, it really depends.

Listen to Liquid Tension Experiment. You'll probably love it. E.g. When the Water Breaks
