Yo....

Unless you're really passing them off as equally good as well, I'm disowning the lot of you. :phear:

Next you'll be dissing The Hives...

Re: Fi and Te Meet in Pretender

OMG that is terrible. Sounds like..... bad Metallica.

Horrendous drumming to boot.

lol

lucky for you there's foo fighters, with every guitar strum rigidly aligned and identical to the previous one, and each instrumental layer having its own little frequency socket. no dynamic clashes, no rhythmical nuance. sterilized and safe for consumption as it should be.

With that drumming they could strum a jet engine and still have the same effect: crowding their own lyrics to the point of suffocating in 1986. (1986 being made a tangible, liquid substance upon listening).

By that logic The Sonics are nothing but a footnote in rock history lol

sry i don't follow "that logic"

the sonics are awesome and they are because they just go for it like kyuss does instead of trying to deliver a "message" like the foo fighter does.

Foo Fighters are turd. I can't stand the seeming omnipresence of Dave Grohl groupies.

Also, these bands are all for pansies.

Meshuggah is calculated chaos, music with balls. The kind of music I can appreciate.

They have... adequate rhythmic space with dissonance, dood...
comparing qotsa to kyuss is like comparing orwell to bukowski

one is shitty and allegorical/satirical, the other is brilliant and direct.
More bad Metallica... :ahh:
If you want a direct message that pulls you out of your skin ffs...
Contrast kyuss vocals with...

which is pretty much the opposite of what i criticized foo fighter for... so i can't see which "logic" you are invoking.

loutallica is severely underrated! lousy comparison though.

RatM hahaha. they're just too michael moore. obtrusive, overstated, insulting.

not sure why i'd want to compare a shock rocker in costume to don't-give-a-fuck-stoners in kyuss. but yeah he is technically a better singer. point?

I have to confess, I never became a real fan of Foo Fighters, QOTSA or Kyuss. They all bore me.

Not inventive enough to intrigue, not tight enough to impress. Just generic, decent musicians making music that doesn't suck. It's not good or anything, it just doesn't suck.

They can be a bit overbearing at times, but they make some great music. Plus, you don't really have to pay attention to everything Zach De La Rocha says.

@bronto

This is how that drumming should work. :p

I AM THE TABLE!!!

So that's it... They're too stoned to produce good music. :D

The part where it has no compatibility with their style whatsoever? ;)

so you think gorgoroth use a discordant drumming to good effect?

to me it sounds competent and well-rounded. a good drummer, yes.

i think you need to open up to aspects of beauty beyond technical proficiency tho.

Ugh ratm and foo fighters are among the worst bands I know of, they show their pseudointellectual bull and narcissistic delusions of grandiosity down your throat without a single original thought capable of solving the shit they like to whine about.

This is how it's done:

Lol... I'm calling this discussion out as a fan match. :D

Admittedly the only band I really like listed so far is Kyuss (that I've heard.)

Foo Fighters are (enter hipster mode :smoker:) too poppy/ mainstream for me. I bet they, like the Hives, are pretty fun live though, and I can attest that Metallica and QOTSA are too, but none are really my thing.

Personally whenever I hear "this is how drumming should sound like" I cringe a little. Who's to say what music should sound like?

Surely in an album like Trout Mask Replica (Captain Beefheart) every musician is playing their instrument "wrong" in that what they are doing is idiosyncratic. But that doesn't stop it from being one of the best rock albums ever made... (IMO, of course...:D)

Ok. Maybe I'm a Beefheart fanboy. :p

The Captain's great, I still have his biography to read. :) Sorry, are you referring to Unconditionally Guaranteed and Bluejeans and Moonbeams? I sometimes think their pre-TMR albums are a little more commercial sounding as well.

I remember there being a few songs I liked, admittedly I probably haven't given them a fair listen. I really love TMR, Lick off my decals baby, Doc at the radar station, and Bat chain puller, I think. :)

I swear, when his music plays I have to tap/ snap my fingers, walk -- music to move to. Or get lost in a desert.

... Where did this thread even come from? Just seems like it's some kind of limbo thread. :smoker:
