I love when people take shitty songs, and make them sound good.

too much pathos for my taste.
how do you call that, when something is too dense, simply too much, over the top?
i can't recall.
but i hope to get the point across anyhow.

I think you have to be familiar with the original song to actually understand why this version is cool.

This song is too much, really cheesy. I suppose they changed the underlying chord progression without changing the key to make it sound more epic.

It is a cheesy song just for the simple fact that is a remix of TLC's "No Scrubs", plus there is a dude singing a song that a woman should be singing. There isnt a whole lot you can do to "No Scrubs" to make it sound good. I can appreciate the fact that it was made into something that sounds better, regardless of how it was done. I dont have the same taste as everyone else though, so other people might think it sounds like shit compared to the original.

original is a lot better. i dunno when the bar for "good" was lowered beneath the mere presence of yelling gasping morons treating every word like a luxury item.

I actually dont like the original at all, in fact I completely hate it. Which is probably why I like this one, they are both opposite ends of the spectrum. Maybe its just bc I sit on my bogets, live with my mother, dont have a car, and have a shorty that I dont show love to. roffel.

well, as far as i am concerned, the shallow lyrics don't support the pathos, if you know what i mean...

The shallow lyrics don't support the pathos, but thats because on one hand you have TLC who has a certain style with shallow music and on the other hand you have these guys where pathos sound is just their preference. I think the entire point was to take two completely opposite styles and make something different out of it. That is what they were going for and I think that they nailed it. Its not for everybody and not everyone can appreciate the concept of what they did but I personally think what they did with it is pretty fun and I enjoyed it. This video actually has over 200,000 likes.

Well, i still don't get it.
Why do you want, as an artist's expression,
force something on you and your audience that is

1. not relating to you
2. entirely out of your style
3. not believeable

?

Money......
I suppose.

(How much did it cost them to clear the copyright for those ""lyrics"" and how much did they expect to be returned on their "investment"?)

I don't give a damn how many ""likes"" it has.
In fact, if this means anything, it only supports my view that this is shallow, watered down, lowest common denominator music by commitee.

What about coming up with something better in the first place?

Sometimes people just like to take something that already exists and experiment with it and turn it into something completely different, They probably have original work but its just something that some artists like to do for fun just to see if they can. Some people will like it and some people wont.

Well, damn me, but in your case the cover version just rings authentic in my ears.

If you are referring to the comment I made about them probably having original work I wasnt referring to the cover, I meant their actual music. This cover isnt authentic what-so-ever, I didnt think covers could be authentic?

There is nothing wrong with experimenting with music, covering songs and changing parts/style whatever to make it sound different. People enjoy doing it and learn from it. I think it should be encouraged as it all helps musicians to grow and develop their skills. IMO it is always a good thing until it is just done for monetary gain. I would also venture that writing original music for monetary gain is equally as bad.

Well, you know, as long as it resonates with you, your personality, what you've encountered etc.... then it rings true to me, and is deemed a worthy endevour.
But when you just slap a mask of somebody else on your face, without first going through all the hoops that this person must have gone through, it is just fake spectacularism.
