How would you describe us forumites?

You could say that.

As in, what is your general impression of the people here on the forum, excluding other types (as far as you know people's types here, and unless you want to do an inclusive and exclusive description)?

I find that people here are very similar to me not in who they are, but how they are.

Explanation: I believe certain things, and have certain ideals. People on the forum range from generally agreeing to having the opposite view. In fact, almost any two pairs of frequent posters here have disagreed. Yet they disagree with each other the same way. A similar style of argumentation, defense/dismissal, acceptance/agreement.
They have different interests. Yet they learn about their interests in the same sorts of ways, and share information about them in a similar manner.
They all have different habits. Yet they all get the same satisfaction from adding their own into a "you know you're an intp when..." thread.

I'd say that I get a general sense of aloofness from people here (exception goes to spaceyeti, the down-to-earth intp of the forum). Slightly detached from reality, looking at their theoretical ideas and pursuits. Ready to defend their ideas and ideals as if their life depends on it, at least to start with. At the same time, they enjoy relaxed discussion and banter with similar minded people, and look for that. It's a process of both intellectual stimulation and relaxation. Life is largely a grind, which is pushed through and manipulated so as to either become more enjoyable or just detached from. Several have managed to make it enjoyable for themselves (Archie for example) but I see the rest as just abstracting themselves away from it for the time being.

Two notes:1) the answers to this thread could well form an official intpforum intp description.
2) typology does actually seem to describe the how of a person rather than the who. Each type includes so many different people, yet they are all very similar in how they do things. In fact, each letter dichotomy is more about the how than the who. Maybe personality itself is much less about who you are, but how you think and how you do things.

Where's Rachel's signature when you need it?

In honesty though I agree with the bit about the, 'how' and, 'what' parts. Not really much more to add.

Actually something I really enjoy is the diversity of opinions, having people from all parts of the world. So I guess I'd describe it somewhat positiviely as, 'diverse'.

often i get a huge "oh come on" vibe from the length and over-elaboration of posts. probably part me envying your energy.

other than that i really like some persons on here and obviously there's something to the overall configuration permutation that keeps me coming back.

i don't know how i would describe this populace in more detail without aimlessly lamenting the flaws of humanity overall.

I think people over-elaborate and simultaneously overlook data a lot. Especially in social domains. There tends to be less overlooking and more over-elaboration in other fields concerning things such as religion philosophy and science. Myself, I simply make no sense instead.

Regardless, the positives outweigh the negatives. People here are not easily (if at all) upset by mere content, this means that there's a lot more room for honesty which in turn prevents taboos from blocking progress in discussions, and there's not this constant situation where one side on discussion is simply uneducated and stupid to the point that communication is pointless to even attempt, because everyone is fairly clever and well read, at least by contemporary standards
