Hi.

I'm not really sure how to go about doing this, since I've always been more of a lurker than a poster, but I'll try.

I'm from Singapore (South-East Asia, right below Malaysia), and I've just turned 14 a few days ago. I think I can safely say that I'm rather 'detached' from the people around me; I never really did get along with people in general, I just can't seem to open up to them. It doesn't really help that I often have this feeling that everyone is out to get me. It's actually pretty rare for me to go up and start a conversation with someone I don't know really well.

I aspire to be either a cartoonist/artist for children's books or an author, since I find that I don't really have to face a whole lot of people with careers like these; I can easily use a pseudonym to hide behind. Plus, artists and authors are pretty much independent jobs, so I don't have to deal with teammates. I rather dislike working with people, since throughout my entire school life up until now I've nearly always been getting the worst kind of teammates who wouldn't even lift a finger to help in group projects.

I rarely post, since I'm really afraid that I might get singled out and flamed, or something similar, so I usually just stick to lurking. A few weeks ago I found out about the MBTI, and apparently I'm an INTP, so here I am. I'm hoping that I can find out about what people like me feel about chatting with strangers online, and maybe even help myself get over the fear of posting on forums.

Was that a tad too long? I tend to elaborate a lot on things like this, sorry. :o

Welcome! :D

How are the durians? Do you get Thai imports or do you get the Malaysian varieties also? I might be assuming too much.

(Oh and your avatar reminds me of an animation I watched called MONSTER, which has a children's book with a similar illustration. Is that your work? It's good :))

Yeah, I drew it myself. Thanks for the compliment! :D

I can't really answer you on the durians though, since I don't eat durians. It's not really the smell that gets to me though, just the taste, I guess. It's kind of weird, considering that I used to love durians when I was younger.

I happen to do editing work for a fantasy magazine. You may find that your own tastes are significantly different from the tastes of the people I work with, however, you can always take a look and see what you think.

The company is Wizards of the Coast. They have an artists' forum and I edit a portion of their Knowledge Arcana magazine.

You can find my contact info over there if you're interested. IF you're not, that's fine too.

All the best,

Dave

Hi Bitto,

glad you de-lurked and introduced yourself, and shared your talent.

Some of us communicate better through pictures than words. You're right, there are ways to reach the world without exposing yourself directly, and it seems cartooning could be your special way.

Hey Bitto o/
I really like your avatar drawing, i really get a sense of the state of mind the character is in.

I can relate very much to your distaste for teamwork wanting freedom to do things your own way.

Hope to see some ideas and thoughts from you.
