Do you guys believe that this music composer/producer really has a mental disability?

This guy supposedly has williams syndrome. Most people with Williams syndrome have mild to severe learning disabilities and cognitive challenges. Young children with Williams syndrome often experience developmental delays. Milestones such as walking, talking and toilet training are often achieved somewhat later than is considered normal.

I find it really hard to believe that someone with this condition can be this proficient with a computer and have such excellent motor skills and hand/eye coordination with a piano.

In this video he shows a beat that hes been making on his computer, then he does some improv over the beat with his piano. If he truly does have a mental disability, this is rather amazing.

Lots of people who suffer some form of retardation are still good at music. There are multiple intelligences, being retarded doesn't mean you suck at everything. I don't see what's hard to believe about this guy doing his shit and having Williams Syndrome.

He behaves like he has it, he looks like he has it. After all:

Most individuals with Williams syndrome are highly verbal relative to their IQ, and are overly sociable, having what has been described as a "cocktail party" type personality.

Perhaps the most effective treatment for those with Williams syndrome is music. Those with Williams syndrome have shown a relative strength in regards to music, albeit only in pitch and rhythm tasks. Not only do they show a strength in the field but also a particular fondness for it. It has been shown that music may help with the internal and external anxiety that these people are more likely to be afflicted with.[48] Something of note is that the typical person processes music in the superior temporal and middle temporal gyri. Those with Williams syndrome have a reduced activation in these areas but an increase in the right amygdala and cerebellum.

Furthermore:

One study of 306 children with Williams syndrome found IQ scores ranging from 40 to 112 with a mean of 69.32

112 is not even close to mental retardation. If that's the highest they got in a group of 306 who knows what the limit is? The guy in the video might not even be retarded. This also makes we wonder what the IQ for a person with Williams Syndrome would be if she/he didn't have said syndrome? If you have 112 with Williams Syndrome that might be like 135+ without it.

Watched another video where they interview him. There is no doubt that he has Williams Syndrome. As he can be seen playing the piano live there's also no doubt that he knows music. There is no doubt.

I understand how he could be good with a piano, but he has a pretty nice setup there and it looks like he might be using fruity loops to make his music on his computer, that takes a little technical know how.

It is a disability because all the reasons as to why it is a disability lol. Why are you asking me this? Just read the wiki article.

He's probably been into music for quite a while. It's not hard to learn a computer program if you have time even if you're stupid and not good with computers. It seems to me like you're categorically making retardation out to be more crippling than it has to be. You also have to consider that (as I mentioned before) he's not even necessarily retarded in terms of IQ. He could have an IQ that's well over 100. What's amazing about him making music then? Even if he was at 80 (unlikely but fully possible imo) there's nothing particularly amazing about it.

Savants are cooler.

I was just being sarcastic, they are slow learners but it looks like they can grow up to be pretty normal, I didnt really mention anything about him having down syndrome or being retarded lol. I was more so amazed that poor fine motor skills is a very common trait in williams syndrome, which doesnt seem to be an issue for him.

Oh, I think the thing with poor fine motor skills is that you can overcome it in areas of focus even if you will always have poor fine motor skills in general.

CC says it better than I could.

Disability is a vague term, particularly when it comes to intelligence. Don't let your thinking on it be rigid.

This disorder explains his odd demeanor and appearance, his love for music, as well as his extraordinary musical talent (97% of people diagnosed with William’s Syndrome possess “absolute pitch”; a rare ability to accurately name and produce the pitch of musical notes without an outside reference)

So its actually why he is so good, pretty interesting.

I enjoyed listening to the youtube clip ^_^

Well aside from the posts by Hado and CC, I think it's hard to judge how much Williams syndrome affects his life since the syndrome's effects manifest off-camera.
