I'm thinking ISTP - the way he intently watches the interviewer, absorbing the facial queues is a pretty Se-Ni thing. To put that in perspective, think about how odd it feels as an INTP to try to stay focused on a person's face when they're speaking since we constantly have information being picked up by Ne and it becomes difficult to not listen to our minds, giving us that 'far-off' look. With Derrick it's like he naturally snaps back to attention (also his eyes aren't bouncing around much [searching, as it were] like one would expect with an Ne-user).

Also, how he kind of looks away when the interviewer looks at him (avoiding eye contact and all) seems like discomfort with Fe.. another thing I'm sure some INTPs can relate to.

I contemplated ISTP but i think his smile is a bit warmer than ISTP's. Plus, i may be wrong but I'm detecting Fi, notably when he laughs at 2:22. Now that I'm thinking, his eyes are more or less fixed, he doesn't move his eyes as much as i would expect from an Se auxiliary. We can exclude N but maybe he could be a Si dom?

terraxceles, ISTJ is a great guess, I think you got it right. A bit far from the ISTJ stereotype but why not?

Sure he smiles at 2:22, but everyone smiles. What makes me say he is a Ti-dom is how quickly he drops the smile and emotion from his face. I don't see how his smile is 'warmer' than any other ISTP or INTP.

Why would you expect an auxiliary Se user to move his eyes a lot? They use the Se to get immediate real-time information from their surroundings - it's visceral. In this case, the information is what the interviewer is saying and what he looks like saying it. In other words, what I already said.

Why can we exclude 'N' (which means nothing, N isn't a function.. it's the same as calling him a J or P, these are arbitrary axes used to communicate a bigger picture of cognitive function ordering) and why do you think he is an Si-dom? I don't see him being directive at all with his responses here. He simply answers the questions asked.

I suppose I wouldn't rule out ISFP, but I just don't see the kind of dreamy, unawareness of Fi-doms.

Also, for an example of what I mean by an Si-dom being directive in an interview, take a look at:

YouTube - Kobe Bryant interview with Stephen A. Smith

I mean not just the smile, but his whole demeanor and face doesn't seem compatible with a inferior Feeling. Check this other interview and you might agree with me that it's too uncharacteristic for an ISTP.

Ok, I think I screwed up on that one, I must admit I'm really bad at detecting Si or Se.

Why can we exclude 'N' (which means nothing, N isn't a function..
''We can exclude Ni and Ne as top 2 functions.'' Better? At least semantically?

I don't get the what do you mean by directive communication, care to elaborate?

Thank you :)

His voice is insanely monotonous. That'd make me guess dominant Compass? As a dominant Ti he could have very inferior Fe; Fi is also known for its monotony where issues that are important to it come up. However I don't think his face warms up anywhere near enough for dominant Fi. I'd guess a Te dom/aux with weak Fi that he very easily clamps down on, but that'd make him directive, which he also doesn't appear to be... The thing is, though, he doesn't use Te in the way I'd expect - as in I don't see any signs of it; I'm just guessing from possible Fi. But really, he reminds me of Fe users, just very, very low on that scale. And the only face that could be that dead and not be pushing anything is a Ti face, I think. He's definitely an introvert.

I'd go with ISTP, I guess, even though I see barely any evidence of Fe (I don't know how to tell Aware mouth from Unaware).

2.26 is really odd. He suddenly catches himself giving an honest, personal answer and instantly drops all emotion and starts giving these detached, impersonal lines for the media. I don't know what that's about. Also I don't think his speech is anywhere near structured enough for a Directive type - it's really vague and roundabout and he repeats himself so many times and seems to be trying to fill up space with redundant words. I don't really see how he could be Fi dom either unless he's really repressed it. The only option left is ISTP.

Also Bryson, I didn't really understand the purpose of the second link, since he seemed even more emotionally unexpressive than in the first. :p He was trying to suppress because it was an emotional moment, like any human who's a bit embarrassed by emotion, which contributed to his wrought-up expression. In spite of that he still managed to look almost completely dead. I don't think the tiny bit of wavering and quavering he displayed shows significant F at all.

INTPs and ISTPs can be amazingly warm. Have you seen Jeff Goldblum, or Jessica Biel (megawatt smile)?

That's an interesting question. I probably put it because i find hard to believe that an inferior F would have ''heart'' in his vocabulary. But I'm sure we could use the word once a year or something lol. I put a bit too much weight on that forbidden word.
But you are right, he really doesn't show much emotion. I'm starting to think ISTP is a fine choice.
Thanks cheese.

Pretty much what I meant by directive is (as in the Kobe Bryant video, which is in that second spoiler up there) a person who will 'take control' of an interview in a way.. making sure that things are answered and understood in a way that matches their beliefs. They put a lot of emphasis on directing thought-out convictions towards people instead of allowing their explanations to meander and possibly diverge.

And yes.. thanks cheese :p

As a ginormous Chicago Bulls/Derrick Rose fan, I'll say that I've been watching him for years and always thought he was ISFP.

You're right. ISTP makes tons more sense.

He's incredibly disconnected from his Fe. Most Ti-doms I know in real life aren't this cold, which is why I missed it the first time.
