Confused between Infp and Intp.

Hi. I actually need help regarding Infp vs Intp which I have been trying to find for days now.

I am am emotional person who feels deeply but doesn't express herself much to others (close friends or parents are exceptions). At the same, I cry easily because I have low tolerance from overwhelming feelings.

At the same time, I am an analytical person who can use reason. I question things and search for truth or accuracy. But, I am not blunt, rather straightforward. I have a straight face as well.

When young, I had problems with social situations, like making friends, seeing others perspective or at times, not understanding others feelings. I have said several mean things to others and even made some enemies. Though, now, I have developed empathy, I can get what others feel, and I do consider others feelings.

During late teenage, making friends is something I can do but it does require me luck as not everyone can be your friends. I used to hate having emotions but when I understood that emotions are tools and actually essential parts of being a human, I don't hate them but at the same time, I need to understand the reason behind my emotions or I would feel like a crazy person.

What do you think? I know I rambled. Though, thanks for reading.

INFP primary look for novelty like ENFP do but by creating it themselves quietly and not sporadically looking for it as ENFP do.

INFP has Te (extraverted thinking) as the last function so when it comes to getting things done they can create things from their first two functions. Ti is reflective on all angles of any problem or thought and is more symmetrical as they think, where Te wants to get one thing done as effective as possible. Te usually seek a singular goal at a time where Ti and Ne go in different direction trying to stick it all together different ideas and tangents logically. Fi Ne tangents are how INFP imagination works feeling differently about the ideas.

This guy has been super helpful to me. This might be your ticket to deciding your type (also check out the other INXX comparisons if you feel that is necessary).

Yes. I noticed that in both my INFP and ENFP friends. What baffles me is that they don't think about possible consequences or where that path would lead to. If they want it, they would just pursue it without any questions. And, my INFP friend surely has good Te which helps her get her finish her tasks.
But, I prefer to think about consequences whenever I want to take a path. Might be my Si too. When I wanted to pursue something and after looking at the situations, I had to question whether it would pay me, whether I would be able to handle it, etc. That too when I had to look at my family conditions. So, I dropped one and took another which still related to my interests but offered me a variety of opportunities. That too when I don't know what to do. I just knew that I wanted to be independent and self sufficient, to do anything I wanted to.

I noticed another thing in my friends is that they don't shy away from expressing their emotions, especially negative ones. My INFP friend rather cherishes her emotions. She said that she wanted to have a crush again because then it doesn't feel empty.

On the other hand, only after meeting them, I am learning to accept my emotions as it is. I used to hate it whenever I felt negative emotions or cried in front of others, might be my past experiences too. I would feel crazy if I felt something but didn't know why. They readily open themselves up after a few months but it takes me a lot of time and caution to do so. That too, when I myself know how tiring my negative emotions are and maybe yes, I fear judgement from close ones.

Does that still make me a INFP? Or something else?

Though thanks for your reply.

We all have emotions whether the are extraverted or introverted but if you want to understand your type, most likely INFP are not bothered so much by unanswered questions as being true to themselves. (And it's harder to find out what type we are when younger) That's to say you might be a thinker so you make decisions based on logical outcomes where as INFP feels fine with anything as long as they feel the right choice was made and don't deliberate on it too much. INFP wonders alot of the choices they make feel correct in relationship to themselves but in logic thinking types can feel this way also but they have less uncertainty because they knew what was more likely to happen. (there can be over Thinking or over feeling about situations)

Look at the thinking types. You might be INTP or you could be another type that thinks.

I see INFP as very good at expressing feelings, good or bad, they feel they are all justified and no restraints on expressing them.
They are quite artistic as well. They can be moody and spooky too. Moods that change can freak people out when they are super strong.
But INFP honors all feelings and builds their trust on feelings entirely. Less judgement of that part of themselves. More judgement for people unlike themselves.

I see INTP as NEEDING calm thoughts, and they often hold feelings inside until something triggers them, and then emotions come out like an eruption that is from their hidden unconscious and it embarresses them. But they hold feelings inside and try to use thoughts to smooth them out around people. They self criticize for their feelings that seem out of control and foreign and raw. INTP's are pretty nice people and avoid interpersonal things because people and feelings are unpredictable to INTP's.

INFP's can predict other people pretty well. But they have high maintenance needs, and love attention to a fault.
Look at the eyes. Are they big, round, watery and expressive? INFP.
Are they steely, grey, hardened? INTP.

If someone looks like they could tear up any moment, thats F.

I relate to the INTP part here then. I don't always share my feelings. If they are negative ones, then I will try hard to keep them to myself. Though, I don't avoid people necessarily. I like to help. But at the same time, sometimes I don't know what to say to console the person just ike my friend. At the same time, I can't stop my tears as I have low tolerance for that. So I cry easily. Thanks for saying.

You may be a highly sensitive INTP, and or a Mirror Empath if you feel others feelings and its hard to distinguish between your feelings and their feelings when you are in the same room. I'm INTP HSP and I'm about 60% T and 40 % F. I just prefer using T to make decisions with and I use F on a meter in that if my feelings are super strong and I can't ignore them, I will say something after a few days of harboring them and after writing them out and finding the best way to say them when I'm at work for example. .I just dislike saying things on the spot as I don't quite trust my spoken word, as I might offend, and its usually not personal, its I am too straightforward for most.

Ah, I relate to that. This can be possible.
I can feel basic empathy, that is feeling sad Or concerned when someone else is. But, I never found myself absorbing others emotions... Fictional characters are different tho... But at the same time I am sensitive to my environment. For example, when someone passed away, the environment got overwhelming for me. So, I sat somewhere else, near my friends.

Well, thanks for your comment! This will help me.

I watched this and related to INTP one. Though, tests and chatbots are being confusing too.
Say, I took Biochemistry over Psychology (both interest me but psychology is a piece of cake for me) due to more opportunities (when I don't know which jobs suit me) and financial independence, for myself and my parents.
Is this value based or logic based? I don't know if this is Fi or Ti.

To be INTP is to doubt. The only hard proof you'll get you're not INTP is if you're convinced you are ;)

Sure. It's really unlikely. It's the rarest type. The burden is on you to show you're INFJ because the default assumption is that you're not.

Otherwise... The functions check out IMO but you don't have the arrogance/narc/facebook mum vibe going on that I see in everyone else that claims they're an INFJ. Probably means they're posers.

Hah, that’s nice. I’m glad you don’t think I come across as arrogant. I do worry I’ve become a bit more stubborn or rigid as I’ve gotten older.

I’d probably argue it based on the functions: Ni-Fe (Ti-Se) makes sense to me.

Ni – I’m worldview-oriented, but it’s built from my own internal experiences, intuitions, and observations. The intuitions come first, and then I use internal logic to make sense of them. I don’t show much commitment to a tradition or ideology’s worldview in the way Si might. And I don’t think I’m fluid enough to have strong Ne.

Fe – I’ve managed to be on this forum for 16 years without ever being warned by a mod. :p

ChatGPT and Pod’lair both said I’m INFJ, so it must be true.:rainbow:

I'd vouch for you being INFJ Puffy. I consider myself something in between an INTJ and INFJ and I can easily relate to your posts.

I'd say that if you don't have an inclination to another type, it's probably correct, seeing that we've been doing this MBTI thing for years (even decades), now.

Ha ha. I can't disagree honestly. I do have doubts but it's just after overthinking so much, I end up reaching to INTP conclusion everytime. ^_^

If you think you are, nothing wrong with that. If you reached there with your own reflection. :)

do you read a lot and hold epic grudges and believe you can read people's minds ?

I read most days for about 30 mins to an hour; I don't think so, my issue is more repressed anger (same as most British people); only when I'm really, really high :dolphin:

isn't "repressed anger" functionally indistinguishable from "epic grudge"

and ok, maybe you can't read minds, but do you believe you know other people's emotions better than they do ?

They're related but I'm not sure they're necessarily the same. Suppressed, unresolved anger could lead to a grudge. I'm more like the type of person who finds it hard to express his anger or boundaries and then years later blows up over something that could have been resolved if I'd spoken up or stood up for myself sooner.

I'd say I'm good at picking up on subtexts, digging deeper than what is present on the surface, and that I'm empathetic. Sometimes I pick up on things that someone might not see themselves, but I think that's because sometimes it's easier to see this stuff from an outside perspective than for someone whose embroiled in it.

Yes and no. I consider myself cautious but others around me sometimes consider me brave due to having intense hobbies.
