I'm looking for an alternative for social networking. I'm not fond of twitter, and facebook makes me a little paranoid. I use it to keep close contact to a few people, and getting news stuff.

Right now, I'm reading into diaspora.

So, I bring the question to INTPforum. Maybe people here know of some better ways to do social networking, (at least better than facebook)?

I've found the only alternatives to facefuck are actually worse than facefuck, with the exception of forums. Why are you paranoid over Facebook? No matter what you post and where you post the agencies and stalkers have it.

There are lesser evils.

Though, I know I'm stupid for even considering it, as my e-social connectedness is very minimal as it is.

Fuckbook? (edit; you said facefuck not fuckbook. whatever, your sig says fuckbook)

But yeah, for real, it sounds like you want something that's essentially facebook but not actually facebook which is both good and bad news for you because the site you're looking for is facebook.

Social media is cancer. No matter which site you use the people are going to suck and the company is going to be doing shady shit with your information.

Irc channels, IM utilities, your local post office, seedy bars with mustached men who are pretty good at pool.

These are all superior to the ad-filled cesspool of time-consuming egotist addiction ala zuckerberg.

Is it social media that you want or actually social networking? Even within networking there are subgroups, like for friendship or for business.

Reddit's an okay place if you want to read and get an insight into random things.

Tsu. It has all the evils of Facebook, but it pays you for creating content every time you post.

Is there any real reason not to use Facebook? Its vast adaption makes it a superior choice as a communication, networking and contact portal. Don't post sensitive information if you fear that and don't participate in mundane social interaction if you don't want to.

I think I have stated it before but I treat Facebook as a contact book and not a comprehensive social platform and it's a good tool for the former if nothing else.

Facebook came out when I was in my first round of college. It was only available to college students at the time, but even with the limited audience, it seemed like a bad idea. It seems like an even worse idea now.

Maybe GooglePlus is better but it's definitely not bigger than Facebook even though it's said to work better in almost any aspect.

I like Meetup.com it's more oriented on actual meetings.

Quora is pretty good, I think? Usually less like a silly impersonal wasteland than Yahoo Answers.
