Every day we grow in one or another way. Sometimes the hard way and sometimes it comes to you through serendipity. Maybe we don't even like what we discover and we wish we had never unveiled that awful secret and maybe it is another new piece of the vast puzzle we call life, that brings us forward.

So I ask you, what is your insight of the day?

Re: Insight of the day

Ohh this is a fantastic thread, because I have lots of these, nearly everyday (or even more than one a day!)

I think my insight of the day is to be more accepting to new people, people who may be different than you, people who you find intimidating. And I mean intimidating in a "good way," like because of their success. They have qualities they you don't have, but you really want and wish you had. For example, their personal style, their outlook on life, their ability to make new friends, things like that.

I mean, I used to always be afraid of talking to people who I thought were better than me in any way (and I still sort of am) but I am desperately trying hard to overcome that fear. If I want the qualities of the other person, the first thing I am going to have to do is talk to them! I mean, how else will I grow in life if I don't learn from those other people? If I only talk to people who are so similar to myself, I will never gain any qualities that will make me a well-rounded person in all aspects of life.

Yeah, that's my insight of the day. :)

My insight of the day is that you should never try to work when there are ideas in your head.

Otherwise you stop workign and start drawing anthromorphic personifications of your weird fourm buddies.

Re: Insight of the day

I'll never, never and on no account understand humanity. I just read an article about people who infect themselves intentionally with AIDS. The text portrayed two people, a homosexual (and apparently very angsty) man who often visited gay clubs, he told that he was afraid of getting that goddamn virus and he decided to pay an infected to give him AIDS and a strange woman - she said that she is tired of life and wanted to get the virus so that she could infect as many men as possible and take some weird revenge before she dies.
I wish I would make this up. It's just gross and in another view just pathetic.
Are those people really humans like me? They seem just so unfamiliar to me. Light years away from what I seem to be - and I lack understanding.

Re: Insight of the day

My insight requires a bit of explanation. I don't like being ordered around by my parents. And so I wonder why. It's different with teachers, since if they order me around, I won't usually take to heart. But I didn't know why instructions in a similar vein from my parents could annoy me (not normally simple) easily.
After a bit of thinking, I noticed that I don't like owing things to people. I always pay my debts, no matter how small, like loose change or favours or borrowing stuff back, or returning intentional slights. Then I noticed this; I'm not happy because I'm holding myself from fighting back (I hate this word. I hate it with a passion. Just because I don't agree with their decisions means that I am a good for nothing undeserving rebel) against my parents. And I'm not fighting back because society, religion and basically everyone says that you owe a humongous debt to your parents (this may have something to do with my upbringing).
So, I'm not happy about this because I prefer to be free to make my own choices. I could love them unconditionally if I didn't know that I'm supposed to love them unconditionally for all the sacrifices they made at the same time. Then I thought: relationships only have true worth if they are freely given, no strings attatched, no fine print. No freedom (of choice), no value. It's kinda strange to state something so obvious, it may not even be an insight... think of it what you will. I hope I just don't end up sounding like I'm whining. :1

Freedom of choice in relationships!

I'd hug you for saying that but, you know, that's just a little too expressive and presumptuous of me.

Unrequested advise

How about a thread for unrequested advise, where we post about the invaluable lessons life has taught us? Let me start:

I was reminded again today that our elders do not provide extra insight, wisdom, or maturity, just a narrow-minded version of their younger selves. Sad, but true.

Re: Insight of the day - unrequested advice [thread merge]

I realized today that my lazyness and stupidity really cross the line. Why did it took me around 4 years of not being able to see a fucking cow in bathroom to finally decide to go to the opthtalmologist and get a fucking pair of glasses? WHY?

I can see great now!
(Yeah, that's what glasses are for, you moron!)

Unrequested advice:
If you know you have to do something, do yourself a favor and just fucking do it. Okay?

Just a joke, how poor has to be your sight in order to not see a cow inside of a bathroom?

Anyway...

All problems in life are caused by people, one way or another.

True-ish, but actually no, not really (e.g: completely and utterly unpredictable earthquake/ bolt of lightning from clear sky/ alien invasion). But saying that nearly all problems in life are caused by people doesn't sound as good, so whatever.

definately agree, cheese

today, honestly, someone threw an APPLE at my head and didn't fuckin' miss. square on the sodding forehead, split the bastard fruit in half.

and strangled by my friend for writing 'ARSE' on every one of his books.

on top of the four already this week making six strike since Monday.

and EVEN WORSE is that some Emo Girl keeps STROKING AND PETTING ME and giving rather disturbing (loving) looks, which as you can imagine is so much more painful than any cut or bruise.

"ARSE" - the superior intellect's word of choice.

By...petting...what do you mean?

Emo girls are hot.

by petting i mean stroking my hair, telling me she loves me and i am adorable. get the message. emo girls certainly are hot but this one is smart too (dammit)

Morgoth- I do deserve it.
one hit me because i tripped him up for pushing me out of the way.
one slapped me for throwing back (and unlike him, not missing) rolled up paper.
two for light-hearted mockery (why are people so easily offended?)
i have explained the 'ARSE' one

but the apple was just my being unfortunate (or them being Bastards)

but girls think i am 'cute' and 'adorable', emo's even more so because they are amazed by my musical tastes. Godammit!

Typical bad-boy syndrome. The more emo and disturbed you are, the more girls will crowd around you. The wonders of the female mind! You see in their arrogance and self-absorption they think they can "cure" you, or make you "better", with the power of their love. That's really the main motivation - the ego.

Also, Melkor/Morgoth has a devoted female following on this forum, if I'm not mistaken. That was the parallel I was drawing - the possibility you would go down the same dark path, assuming your virtual life follows the same trajectory as your real one.

I know what you mean about perfect girls though - sheesh. It can be worth it however.

@-Seducer
WTF is wrong with you?
A smart, dark, attractive girl has taken interest in you and that's somehow a bad thing?

Would you prefer to change places with me and be surrounded by unintelligent or hopelessly shallow girls whose minds are either completely incompatible with the relative darkness of my own or are walled up inside their own mental barriers.

*sigh*
I lack the skill to bypass afore mentioned barriers... or perhaps because my own are too strong and thus I am unable to open myself up sufficiently to establish a connection.

Nevermind, I'll just go over here and hate myself for a little while, then hate myself for stooping so low as to be hating myself, so on and to infinitum or till I fall asleep.

@-Morgoth
How is it that I cannot understand the workings of your mind, all I can tell is that your either in a great deal of pain or you were once and this has changed you fundamentally, do you medicate yourself with this place, is it an escape from your demons?
No wonder the women chase you, like vultures they descend upon one that is emotionally crippled, that they subconsciously believe cannot turn them away, cannot hurt them, that you are easy prey for their self serving altruism.
Heh, they're wrong aren’t they, whatever hurt you originally stole some of your humanity as well; does your conscience bother you, do you at once yearn to be free of its chains and recoil in fear at your own inner inhumanity, afraid of letting it out.

Well that was fun :D
