May I ask when you came to the US? My great-grandparents on my mother's side were immigrants from there, so I am curious.

What's your opinion on the present Ukraine situation, and the perception of it from people in the USA?

Last year I saw a reporter in Washington, DC with a map of the world and asked several people to point out where Ukraine was. All got it wrong, including a guy who worked at the Department of State Since its no longer first page most people in US already forgot about the war.

I am from Odessa which was established in 1794 by Catherine the Great. It was part of "New Russia" and has always been Russian speaking city. Crimea was also part of "New Russia" as well as other land in that area. Putin took Crimea because of its strategic value as Black Sea Russian Navy ports. Now Putin wants to grab a land bridge to Crimea and started a war to get what he wants. Some people think that he wants more and if not stopped will try to overtake big chunks of Southern Ukraine, including Odessa. Odessa used to be Imperial Russia's 2nd most important city because of the trade routes it had with Southern Europe & Middle East. Now there are multiple ports in and around the city as well as oil refineries. There is a lot of existing infrastructure that can be grabbed instead of building it at annexed Crimea.
