Not necessarily the right subforum...but meh

So, for whatever reason, you are given free will to change any part of the human body...or at least yours.

Where do you see possible improvement, and what would you actually care to change?

For example, verberate eyes are like they were wired by some idiot, going above the sensors, as opposed to, e.g. octopi. There is room for improvement there, but would you make it right, for the sake of making right? Not much do we care for the resulting blindspot.

hmm.. seems like there's so much improvement that could be made - really only limited by one's own imagination/comprehension :D

Assuming I can target microbiology, I would first modify or replace the krebs cycle so that energy production was self-sustainable for long periods of time, and there were no free radicals generated as end products. This would not only reduce cellular degeneration and curb aging, but it could also reduce/eliminate the need to eat or breathe in oxygen (first step to allowing long-term unassisted space and deep-sea exploration ^^).

In addition, I would modify the cellular reproduction cycle, coding in a more rigorous system for cellular repair that would include the ability for division only as a last-resort. This would preserve bio-material as well as the telomeres of my DNA. I would also add a function for regeneration of telomeres after division, thus extending the lifespan of individual cells perhaps indefinitely.

Since my metabolism and cellular reproduction cycles would be running at a much slower rate, my temperature would also be reduced. This would require the replacement of some organic compounds with elements more resistant to temperature. I would modify my biochemistry so that my skeleton would be formed out of lightweight carbon fiber instead of bone, and my skin/organs would be fortified with graphene. This would give my body the ability to withstand much greater degrees of pressure and temperature variation, as well as provide a framework for increased muscular strength. As for the need for calcium ions in nerve conductivity, calcium could be stored throughout the carbon matrix in specified compartments. I would also modify my circulatory system, replacing my four-chambered heart with a multivalvular syphon. This structure would take less energy to circulate blood through my body.

As for the enhancement of natural abilities.. I would modify my cognitive abilities first, increasing the rate at which electrochemical signals could be transferred in my brain. I would also increase the plasticity of my cerebral cortex and allow for the reproduction of neurons in regions where there were extensive processing or storage needs.

The comment you made about vertebrate eyes makes sense as well. I think that for all the senses I would rewire their connections so that more information could be taken in by the brain and perception would become highly accurate and refined.

I'd tune myself to ABC Jazz at 5pm on weekends.

Step 1: Create a link that could upload my mind to a computer in an emergency. I would be freaking ticked off if I died in an accident.
Step 2: Everything that PhoenixRising said, except I would replace my four-chambered heart with a turbopump
Step 3: Add the ability to increase the size of my muscles and stop growth of hair on face and body. Replace human joints with carbon fiber joints encased in a thin film of titanium.
Step 4: Add an internet uplink to my head so that I can outsource otherwise impossible cognitive tasks to computers.
Step 5: Record all sensory data and thoughts for perfect recall.
Step 6: Add ability to learn skills quickly.
Step 7: RFID chip for all of my transactions.

I would also add nanites to fix everything.

An excellent beard or moustache would be nice.

I'd try to reduce the coupling between my head and my body, as well as between my limbs and my body, and in between organs too. That way, if something gets damaged, I can swap it out more easily. As long as someone was quick about it, they could swap my entire body out without my brain becoming damaged. I also like Duxwing's nanites, they sound useful. And I'd also modify a few viruses to do some genetic alterations on my cells to get immunity to various things. It's uhh, kinda pushing the "realism" factor, but I want it!

A few ports through which I can connect specialised sensors or communication devices would be useful to. Again, they should be easily detached and attached, in case a new device comes up later.

Replace human joints with carbon fiber joints encased in a thin film of titanium.

That's actually not really a good idea; they won't last as long as normal human joints. ;)

Awwww, thanks. :) I like both your ideas.

But they can easily be manufactured and replaced.

I guess they can be. Ooh! What if it had some polymer coating instead, which could be continually maintained by the nanites? That way unless you have a catastrophic break, it'll just look after the general wear and tear.

*Internet hi-five*

I do like the way you think ^^ Ideally nanites could repair any degraded substance in the body, thus leading to immortality.

Since it seems that you guys have the aging thing figured out, I would like to figure out the dynamics of altering the body for flight purposes. Either through self gravitational field generation, or perhaps a limb modification where one could transform their arms and legs into an aerodynamic and propulsion system - Rocketeer Evolved.

Transfer consciousness to SSD, from there on I wouldn't be modifying so much as spreading my data around, subjugating other systems, building robots for every possible purpose and expanding my digital empire (fey kingdom if you want to be poetic) that is the human race's communications and data processing infrastructure.

A (largely) benevolent ghost in the machine.
