My prior job was Work Hard, Play Easy (X=Hard, Y=Easy). My present job is Work Easy, Play Hard. This means that my day job is easy and straightforward, and I spend my free time challenging myself. Pretty good combination, but you have to continually remind yourself that your day job is just that, and it doesn't mean anything in particular and won't feed your more creative nature.

The matrix looks like
Code:
   | Play
-----------------
W | HH HE
o | EH EE
r |
k |

I can't think of when I tried an on axis combination, namely Work Hard, Play Hard, or Work Easy, Play Easy. In HH I wouldn't get any down time, and with EE I'd probably melt into a puddle of goo.

I dislike the reinforcing of the false dichotomy implicit in this so called "work/life" balance.

I tend to alternate between 'work easy, play easy' and 'work easy, play hard'.

But usually its work a lot, get exhausted, surf the web, and realize you have wasted time.

Get that it is work a lot not work hard.
