Why do many Koreans and Chinese think of themselves as the superior Asian?

Why do many Koreans and Chinese seem to think of themselves as the "superior Asian"?

When I go to Korean forums, I see a lot of degrading remarks made towards other Asian races, especially the Chinese and southeast Asian. Describing someone as looking like a southeast Asian is often used as an insult. Non-Korean (but still Asian) celebrities working in Korea usually face racism.

When I go to Chinese forums, I often see threads such as 'Why is China superior?', 'Explain how powerful China is", and 'Why are you proud of being Chinese?' etc. I also saw an interesting comment on Weibo in which the user claimed that Chinese is the "best race, backed up by scientific claims" and "has the largest penis among Asians".

It's not abnormal to be nationalistic. However I'm curious why so many of them think they're the best Asian race when I barely hear things like this from races such as the Japanese. I do know that most Chinese can be pretty extreme in their views. Perhaps Koreans' sense of superiority is derived from the belief that they're visually superior as compared to their Asian counterparts.

Curious to know what you guys think. This is just my observation. I am not insinuating that these are facts.

Hmm... though it seems to be nationally accepted. Have yet to see anyone (not necessarily SJWs) have a different opinion or speak up for the other races. It's very common to see celebrities and TV programs putting down other races on TV. "You look like an Indian." "I'll mimic a black person." and things like that.

i hear the singaporeans are the best singers in the world

I thought so too after I heard JJ Lin by chance. It was simply a video of him singing life but I fell onto my knees when I heard that perfection. It was then I found my new religion.

It's a complicated issue (ethnically Korean here myself), but it mostly boils down to history, then probably the culture-language. This superiority mindset I think is derived from China, with all the Mandate of Heaven and the Center of the World worldview.

If you have specific questions I'll try my best to answer them.

In your opinion, which country boasts the most convincing ladyboys?

From East Asia? Probably Japan. (If you're talking outside of East Asia, Thailand takes the cake.)

I'd say Korea has a fair bit of effeminate celebrities in its idol culture, but it's still a masculine effeminatity, i.e., to attract female fans, thus not a 'trap'. Homosexuality is pretty much taboo here, and is often looked upon with extreme distaste.

China on the other hand is overall too rural (I think, anyway) to have that kind of idol based support. Tbh I can't even name a single contemporary male celebrity from China. (Never been to China myself)

Japan can pull this off because of their cosplay and animation culture, plus they're always in want of a new fetish since they're always in some perpetual existential crisis. The whole ladyboy thing is used as a joke in Japan and not as an actual trap. And similar to Korea, the Japanese view heterosexuality as the absolute norm.

Thailand on the other hand has the whole prostitution and human trafficking thing going on, which I guess is self-explanatory. There's also a bit of homosexuality that goes on in their Buddhism, from what I understand.

I kind of felt that this started out as a joke, but a semi-serious exposé couldn't hurt.

I'd say this feeling of Asian superiority is the strongest in petty minded or immature people who haven't completely internalized the traditional materialistic-darwinian perspectives on survival that's prevalent in the pessimism ridden collectivist societies.

They don't understand that this kind of outlook, while socially validated, is expected to be kept to themselves.

It is often stereotyped that Asiatic countries have a tendency to follow 'nobler' spiritual or philosophical perspectives, but that is mostly only valid for the educated and matured participants of their culture. As a whole, there are strong pessimistic and xenophobic overtones stemming from rural-derived groupthink.

Specifically about China; a big part of it is Communist Party's anti-Japanese revisionist propaganda, their econo-cultural isolation and their socio-cultural impoverishment.

^ Right, to add on, the pedagogy of China is essentially communist, meaning that their education system is geared against western liberalism, democracy, and so on. Whatever the misgiving of Mao, the education system outright ignores or misstates, because the political and social outcome of such acquisition of truth means the fall of the government and thus the country.

Depending on how you view the history of East Asia's 20th century, the blame could be placed on a lot of different actors. If it weren't for Japan's aggression in Manchuria, the Nationalists could have taken power, thus stemming away the growth of the Communists. If Hirohito's Japan is to be blamed for its amoral spread of modernization, i.e. distortion of truth for aggression, Mao's China is to be blamed for the outright butchering of it- both modernization and truth.

And naturally, as a Korean, I have a slight discomfort with how both nations view history within their own nationalist narratives. Meiji's Japan had basically violated the sovereignty of Korea, murdered our Queen, and annexed the country, while Mao had directly played a part in dividing our nation, giving birth to the monstrosity that is North Korea.

Of course looking at the bigger picture the blame could be placed on the Soviets, but meh, that's beyond the scope of this topic I guess.

Like I said, the issue is complicated, and this is only the historical aspect from the 20th century only.

Oh that, yeah we have that problem here in the Philippines too.

Asia is actually more racist than the West but we tend to be joking and roundabout when practicing them so it's not as obvious.
