Why did I post in another thread before introducing myself?

'Twas out of ignorance and not foul manners, so I hope I will be forgiven.

I have this vague plan writing a dystopian novel ('the best of all time' I add on good days), was browsing some sites on reading materials and got here by accident. As I have no attention span worth mentioning, I forgot why I was here, started reading some threads, and liked it.

So, with your approval, I'd like to stay. Pretty please?

Introducing yourself is not a requirement.

I really like the quote in your signature.

Does one need the approval of others to enter a public domain?

I suppose not, although it might be viewed as common courtesy? When I last visited a forum, facebook did not even exist yet (before you think I'm 80: I was on a forum when I was 13-15)

Thanks JarNew, I love the quote too! It's from Lynn Hall.

Do you know your MBTI type?

Apparently it isn't really relevant, but it is my personal curiosity.

I think we should organize a momentous day in which everyone changes their avatar. It will mix things up a bit and, as I am more attracted to your avatars than your names, possibly others are as well. It will be cool to see if everyone still can tell who everyone else is.

Nut I don't look at names. Without avatars I will be a lost little boy in a forest who is blind and being chased by garden trolls.

Hmmm! that reminds me of something that Kurt Vonnegut once said "What world needs now - is not more love, just more common courtesy"

Welcome, and it has been noted that this forum is a bit unusual with the popularity of it "Intro Threads" . I use to try to greet every 'newbie' but in my old age it seems as soon as i would greet them they would disappear ( Hmmm cause and effect perhaps?)...

We've tried this before. It was not unlike herding cats. Mostly you get about 5 people that temporarily change their avatar but only after everybody agrees on an avatar theme. I like the idea though.

Welcome little gephura. I generally think that it's easier to get flies with vinegar instead of honey. :storks:

I think we should make it mandatory. Shake the snowglobe a bit. Get some of our quieter members who like to read and nod to themselves and make alien notations in small little black books (reference to Fringe) out in the open posting and get some fresh ideas.

Hmm...you are a lot less extreme INTP than most of us here. Maybe you actually managed to have a normal childhood and personal life! Congrats.

I'm sorry to hear that. Why doesn't anybody else have pictures of themselves on their profile!!! I want to know who the heck I am talking to!

Well, my post might've been somewhat exaggerated. I guess my early childhood was quite alright, which means a lot in later life.

And I like the anonymity of fora. For pictures, I have facebook.

As do I, but I, for one, think that it is common courtesy to let people know, even if only on the physical level, who they are interacting with. Seems to be nice thing to do, if that makes any sense.

I have post a pic of myself on the site, but I don't see the need to do it. I honestly don't think it matters and if it was someone I would be interested in (read:hot girl) I would think it was fake.

That's true, but I feel that in daily life, people already judge enough only by looks. I always wonder what they really think of me, apart from that. But in a few days, sure.

You seem to have a very negative expectation of forum people and their looks ;)

I honestly don't care what your looks are like. For the five years antes de esto, I went to really competitive boarding schools. You really simply could NOT get in unless you were very smart, athletically competitive in multiple sports, and usually musically gifted. These were very small, very tight communities. It was immediately apparent that for the most part, people who were well rounded were generally not "lookers". I have formed my posits about this fact, but I won't get into that.

Moral of the story, I stopped judging people based on looks a long time ago. Sure, a cute girl will obviously catch my eye, but I care more than anything else if a person is respectful, accountable, and reliable. Thats really all that matters in this world. Most of my closest friends, especially the female ones, were not very attractive, conventionally. I loved them though, because I have discovered an interesting correlation between a girls looks and her B-wordiness. The better looking a girl is, the more likelihood she with be a bit of a b-word. The less pretty girls are a lot nicer, chiller, and honestly, funner to be around.

Either way, we should stop being insecure about judgement based on the physical. I think we are all better than that, aren't we?

True enough. OK, I quickly took a picture of myself to show my approval with your point. It's still not very visible, but you should get a general idea of my appearance.

Wait you asked for a picture of everyone and then said it doesn't matter to you. :storks: I'm confused.

Might be just to know who you're talking to?

I said looks don't matter to me. Seeing the person is sorta nice so you can have a mental image of them.

That would be far more achievable by banning avatars altogether. Gazing at the sparkly eye-candy seems extraneous.

This novel...what is the projected page-count?

In a world where people you've known for over a decade don't understand you as well as most people could be understood in a month, is a world where my introduction is pointless.
