which types are most similar along the axes of I/E, N/S, T/F and J/P, respectively?

i'm inclined to say NTJ, ITJ, INP and ENT

It's really about the specific functions. Even two NT users can be different, if one has Ni and Te and the other Ne and Ti they will probably be very different.

In general, INTPs, INTJs and ISTPs tend to be similar in a lot of ways. This is because INTPs and ISTPs share the same dominant function (Ti) and INFJs also have Fe/Ti, even though another introverted function (Ni) is dominant. If there is any broad correlation, it would be that those with a dominant introverted function tend to be more subjective (oriented to self) while those with a dominant extroverted function tend to be more objective (oriented to environment).

Just to make it clear are you saying INTJs and ENTJs are similar and ENFJs and INFJs are not similar etc?

yes. i'm not sure how i arrived at those answers. EFJ and ENF looks wrong. it's all preliminary.

also i wrote ENP instead of ENT. this has been corrected. it's hard to find a pair of types where J/P doesn't make an immense difference.
