Which type would you switch to?

For a long time I struggled with being me. Well, I struggled with the fact that I was an outcast, of sorts, and blamed myself. Over the last several years I've come not only to accept but to embrace and love who I am. Throughout my life, I received little to no validation for my strengths, which caused me to question whether or not I was doing things the "right" way. I've come to understand that external validation does not affect how well I operate. I'm good at stuff - pretty much anything I want to be good at - even if nobody acknowledges it.

I discovered MBTI maybe a year ago or so. Its been illuminating, to say the least. It has been a kind of validation (which is great and all, but actually reinforces the fact that I dont need validation) for my "quirks" or whatever. When I read about other types I find that they are full of what I consider to be weaknesses that I would not want to own. I suspect those other types would likely feel the same about INTP's.

So my questions to you fine folks is would you switch types? If so, to which one(s)? And why/why not?

Well, previous to my engagement with a bunch of ENTJ's, I would have said that I'd like to be one of those. But almost immediately, I realised the perverted nature of Exernal J.

The hardest thing for me to comprehend with other type's is their lack of open endedness.

I think the only type as open as INTP is ENTP. And I suppose if I could be any type, I'd probably be ENTP... They are as clued up as the INTP, but with a social advantage. What's not to love?

I remember a thread like this a while back. Lots of people who said they wouldnt, lots of people who said ENTJ. I'd probably stay the same. I turned into somewhat of an ambivert over the last year, in the sense that I can be extraverted when I want to (i.e. use Ne over Ti). I'm pretty happy with this. If I had to change, I might go with ENFJ, just because I seem to get along with them fairly well. But, given the choice to remain xNTP, I'd do that.

I'd probably like to be James Marshall. He is a pick up/inner game guy on youtube and resembles Viggo Mortensen. I tell myself i look similar, but he doesn't look like an introverted creep, so i guess i don't. You go and type him according to your understanding of typology. But let's face it, if i could ask for a reincarnation as a socially outgoing character, i would end up being Mystery. It's just how the wheel of fortune works for me

I would want the style of an ESFP with the personality of an ENTP while still maintaining my INFJness.

I think i said intj or entj in an earlier thread about the same topic, but I feel more like I'd probably stay the same nowadays.

I could use some ENFJ traits in my life. Or something like :Ti Fe Ni Se, Si seems useless, Fe is too underleveled, Ne is sometimes handy sometimes wasted.

If this was a game, which it is, I'd spend 25% points on Ti, 25% on Fe, 20% on Se, 20% on Ni and 10% on Ne.

Seriously, I feel fine the way I am, although I focus mostly on developing the "fe" aspects for now.

The least interesting/likeable "generalisations of personality" are Te, Si and Fi, I don't want them at all.

I don't think that people understand a function at all, if they find it unlikeable. Each has awesome potential, but often we just see them for what they fail to be - something else. Of course Si can't be Ne, duh. But Si can't be reduced to being conservative. In fact all skills in the world are carried by the subjective habit building superpower of Si, whether this happens consciously or unconsciously (as it does in ESTP, for example). To me, Si is why i have artistic sensibilities which are definitely the biggest source of joy in my life, next to my potential ability to break all "the rules" with my Ne, at least in my imagination, which is in practice severely limited by my overall introversion/judgement/cautiousness. Si is why i can stare at the reflection of the sun in the griptape of my skateboard or at an oil spot on the asphalt and enter selective nirvana, because it connects me with a deep sense of perfection or harmony. And there is absolutely nothing backwards about Si, in so far it's practiced consciously, which is not always the case for tertiary Si. The reason Si types, especially the SJ temperament (but we as well - i could point that out to you), are conservative assholes comes down to their either passive(-agressive) (auxiliary or inferior, in occurring in an autistic autopilot) Je (so again, we are seeing auxiliary Je for what it fails to be - namely dominant and pro active, experimental, flexible) or, in the case of dominant Je types it's down to individual stupidity, because smart Je types can be extremely progressive and skillfull = development oriented.

I envy/adore another type if they have, what i lack and normally that is just extroversion. They are most likely my mirror or my dual but in some cases share only two of my functions and what makes them look adorable to me is that they can apply those two functions in a context that is not accessible to me.

I'd switch to what the soul across be fitting on their body,
Till I found what they are all about, and then I flip the shoddy,
And a rounded out energy, is building up and filling me,
Their eyes gaze to the other side, those habits I be killing,,, G.

I love being an INTP and wouldn`t change it permanently, but I`d like to temporarily experience life as an ESTP. I`d like to use extroversion and sensing in order to become financially successful and make friends, and then get back to being an INTP while keeping those newly gained advantages and experience.

I'm not sure you understood my post. I wasn't very serious and by likeable I meant those aspects both positive and negative of Si and the fact that I wouldn't be interested in having them. Personally I dislike having introverted sensory reactions to audiovisual stimuli, especially if it means entering some kind of detachment or nirvana.

I can appreciate Si in others and I don't find Si types inferior or I don't dislike them, I find Si, Fi and Te useless and negative only if I were to rely on or use them myself, their "ways" are inconvenient and less than optimal when I considered the "ideal" scenario of picking the 4 most interesting functions I'd like to have developed.

I'd describe my engagement with art in terms of Fe and Ne, maybe Se, I doubt there's Si in it, based on function descriptions as I don't buy into them being anything else than abstractions of various unrelated personality traits.

Istj. Oh wait... It's which type you'd switch to. In all seriousness, i'd probably go with entp just because it'd be interesting to experience Ti and Ne swapped.

I'd like to be an actual INTP. I'm not any type right now, too underdeveloped to have a type so I vacillate between extremes often. Would be nice to be an INTP. Would be nice to be anything at all. Almost anything at all.

I'd like to be an ESTP that thinks before they do things. A highly intelligent one with the capacity for understanding almost anything. It would be like being practical and cool and in control even when not, yet also an intellectual giant and a calculating monster. So I'd want to be Hannibal.

It's like asking a murder what they'd be if they didn't kill people, kind of the wrong question don't you think?

I can intellectually understand other types but find it emotionally nearly impossible to do (except in moments of concentration and clarity), don't know how that question is answerable. For example, I understand that religion and political ideology goes with having an intuitive inferior (in S dominants), but I can't emotionally get behind it. Having a type does that to you.

No. Its like asking a quarterback which other position(s) they might be interested in playing.

He could be plenty satisfied with his position. He may not even have the athleticism to play any other position. But he may want to experience delivering some hits, for once.

No. Its like asking a quarterback which other position(s) they might be interested in playing.

Wrong analogy, a quarterback actually can play another position easily and for the long term because that's a learned skill. Not so with type as has been discussed over and over; type doesn't change, only our perception of type changes. That is, it isn't a learned skill, though how we express it is learned.

Example: ask an INTP to walk the wild side and work as an ENFP grief counselor. For five years.

There are certainly learned skills. There are also unchangable physical traits.

Tom Brady would be as comfortable and effective playing wide receiver as an introvert would be as a used car salesman.

Heres another phrasing: What strengths do you most value in other types? What combinatiins of those strengths, that other types exhibit, do you find most interesting?

Yes as I said, but all practitioners agree that Type is not changeable.

There are also unchangable physical traits.
Hey its your poor analogy, not mine. None of my business trying to make it work.

I'll recast the question; recusing gender ambiguous individuals (gay, bi, cross, non sexuals, etc), then which sex would you rather be? My point is that I don't believe an average man or woman can truly judge which sex they'd rather be, as fundamentally men don't know what it's like to be a woman and vice versa. Oh we all have an idea, but my decades on this globe have shown me that we're all fundamentally clueless. Same with Type.

Hmm, not sure I'd want to switch at all. But if I did, I would probably consider ENTP since they are basically able to think just like INTPs but are slightly more socially comfortable and warm. Although I do find them a bit too manic, but charming nonetheless.

Clearly. But one can still play the game "If you could go back in time..."

Its cool, though, I didnt really answer either.
