Could you give a more concrete example of the kind of assistance you're looking for? For instance, do you need help with deciding on what you want to eat for dinner tonight? Or perhaps, do you need help with carrying something? Homework?

When it comes to psychological help I'd have to say it depends. People don't know how to help most of the time. They are quick with hugs and sympathy but actually being able to talk it out with you is hard for most people. I tend to just need someone I can bounce my own conclusions off of anyway. I've got a couple of friends for that. It usually ends with me asking, "am I crazy?".
When it comes to getting help moving furniture I tend to be the person doing the helping. I have moved a lot of people's crap for them.
In seriousness though, I have a couple friends and a some family that can help if I need it. However, most of the time I find that I have to be able to help myself before anything really gets done. Friends and family are great if you have a specific thing you want them to do. If you need that sort of generalized "help" that we all need then you are up a creek.
