There's a thread for why you use your username, however, why do you use the avatar you use?

Does it have some deeper meaning?

Is there a story behind it?

I just found it as a background in a website,I just used so it would complement my username, and it wears a tie.

When I was little my parents had these frowny-face stickers that they'd put on all the things they didn't want me to touch.

I am reclaiming the frowny-face symbol from their clutches!

I love the Gray Fox from the video game "The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion".

Therefore, I decided to make a pixel avatar of him.

And so, here we are.

What about your avatar, Auburn? Any hidden messages, double meanings?

Alright ;)

For those who don't know, my avatar is the character Haku from Naruto. He was a guy* with a very kind heart. The main focus of the character Haku was his innocent sacrificial love. Haku itself means white/snow; a pefect parallel to his character's purity. I have yet to come across a more perfect representation of pure love!! His death was one of the most dramatic moments in the series! It left me in awe for quite some days...

And although he is a fictional character, what he represents is something that I really admire.

*whether Haku was male or female was a point of controversy because of Haku's feminine ways, but he was male.

I'm just using Death from Neil Gaiman's "The Sandman."

I identified with her in many ways; she's serious but quirky and wry, firm but kind, easy-going but still directed. She approaches people with bemusement but still some obvious love/compassion and tries to establish rapport even if her role isn't the most pleasant. Very perceptive too, in terms of big-picture as well as what's happening inside someone.

Jenny, I thought that looked familiar! I finished Volume 7 or 8 of Sandman recently. GREAT series.

But... clearly, Delirium is the best Endless besides Dream. You can still empathize with Death though. :p

@Jennys avatar: And she looks good ;) (as far as you can say such a thing about paintings of faces...)

My own avatar is simply a 'image' of Gandalf wandering around. Since it is only obvious that that person is a wizard, and not Gandalf, it fits to my username. Yes, i know, unimaginative :p

I found mine on some huge avatar-bank years ago. I mainly picked it because I liked the art style, and it looks vaguely like me; more specifically, I look over the top of my glasses like that a lot.

Mine's a spiral galaxy that the Hubble telescope took a picture of. I wanted something that had the right sort of mood and was somehow related to things I like. I love astronomy. I liked the first class I took so much that I took archeoastronomy the next semester. I wanted to use a nebula, but shrinking down the picture so small would have lost the detail that made me like the picture.

This is one of the reason, why I chose Death as my username.I like Haku, from Naruto he sacrifies his life to save his master's life.Almost all the character in the Naruto have 'emoish' background.

Mine goes with my Sig. Its the kanji for Darkness. Together with my sig it represents how I feel emotionally. (Like there's nothing left and the emptiness is growing)

I'm 90% sure that that is Leorio from Hunter X Hunter (anime)

Here is what he looks like with out the super zoomed in and in the origianl art style.

Probably my favorite ever, although Watchmen and V for Vendetta are up there too (the book series, not the movies).

They're all pretty great in their own way (although socially Despair seems to be a downer and Destiny's a little stiff). Delirium's a nut, though. :)

Hahahahahaha! That's too funny. Neither one of those looks like what my little crop put into my head. I'm just going to pretend I never got your posts, so I can still think it looks like me! :p

I was going to find a picture of snape, but that was not working out nicely. So I got a pretty rainbow to brighten up the site. The color palette is quite dreary here.

Uhm. I see they only have a version in gray there, strange. I think they had it in colour before, and without the "Copyright by"...

I was lucky. I was trying to find a profile pic I could use on sites I didn't want to put a real one up on. I typed in a search for chemist plus some other words and this came up as the first option... along with this one:

Mine is a culmination of two very awesome characters: the cookie monster and L from death note. To be honest...It's really there because I felt like it on the day I made my profile. I change mine all the time depending on how I feel at the time but I've been pretty lazy lately so I haven't bothered to change it yet.

For an art project (a very unoriginal assignment, but what could I ask for in freshman year intro art), I had to make a "me" collage using as many items as possible (the more items, higher the grade). I have about 100 + photos and drawings (some mine, some not) stored on a flashdrive that eventually went together into the final version. Which I proceeded to lose, very poetic. Still can't find it, I'm sure it's at the bottom of my desk drawer...

But, anyway, the cat photo was one of the many I chose. I have a cat. Mine is multicolored. This one is grey. They sort of balence each other out.

Mine is Osaka daydreaming about having a pigtail transplant and subsequently flying off in regret and sadness using said pigtails as wings because the removal of the pigtails from her robot friend Chiyo in an experiment caused Chiyo to deactivate.

Or something like that.

Mine is a representation that is at least two hundred years old (I think it may be much older) of two old men playing Go.

There's definitely some symbolism and significance there.

Mine is the apocalypse on Earth. Volcano lightning.

"pictures of the Chaitén volcano erupting in Chile (the country, not the delicious mixture of beans, meat and spices) and creating a "dirty thunderstorm". Dirty thunderstorms are caused by the incredible amount of static electricity generated in a volcano's ash plume"

http://www.geekologie.com/2008/05/eye_candy.php

There are several other really cool shots taken on the same occasion there.

And ...

I agree. It looks like some Photoshop work, which would be cool in of itself, but they were taken with a camera and not retouched. Did you see that the volcano waited 9000 years before it blew? And then it was the most spectacular thing on Earth.

Mine is fairly shallow. It's coffee. Why? Because I love coffee. I love the way it smells and the way it tastes and the way it warms my hands up when it's cold. It is pretty much my trademark. If you see me in the morning without a cup of coffee in my hands, duck and cover.

Mine is a scan from the Marchen Awakens Romance manga of Phantom making a crazy face. Whenever I see a particularly creepy face being made, I have a strong urge to use it as my avatar. Can't explain why. I guess I just like crazy faces.
