I just finished The Picture of Dorian Gray. Of the choices listed which one should I read next?

Dracula by Bram Stoker or The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allan Poe.

George Martin's series is dark fantasy and rather depressing, but a good read and rather captivating. It is very similar to Robert Jordan's 'Wheel of Time' series in style, but quite a bit darker.

"Double Whammy" by Carl Hiassen. Very clever mystery/adventure/whatever. South Florida. John D. McDonald with an even more ironic delivery.

It seems like A Game of Thrones is winning. I have never I gotten all the way through that, though I I can't exactly why I haven't. The parts I read were good but I there was always something else to read. Since I'm trapped in snow and ice at the moment it may be the only option anyway. I don't quite know what Da Blob means by dark, so far the darkest thing in it is Dany Tragaryen and her relationship to her brother. But maybe it gets darker as it goes along.

@Anthile: I've already read Dracula though not Arthur Gordon Pym. I think I have it in a Poe collection on my shelf though.

I'll look it up EditorOne

A Game of Thrones, definitely. Amazing book, and an amazing series.

And yeah, it gets darker. It just starts out slow because there are SO MANY CHARACTERS to introduce. Seriously, in the first 150 pages or so, just about nothing happens.

His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik. Though I've been tempted to start A Game of Thrones myself.

The Narrative of Arthur Gordon Pym of Nantucket by Edgar Allan Poe.

I decided this one. I haven't read Poe in the longest time. It will be like coming home.

The City of Tiny Lights - Patrick Neate
Very funny book about a private detective in London. Lots of street talk and very different style/conventions from all others that I have read. Of course there is a mystery involved as well...
