neccessity and interest.

Interest is a strange one because I get obsessed with it and then when I figure it out I get bored.

The mystery really.

I couldn't agree more! I'm also motivated by the prospect of new experiences. If I haven't done something before, I'm a lot more motivated to give it a shot.

My friend had a theory about self-hatred (he used some fancy word) and something else, something like laziness. When he got really lazy he would hate himself for being not better things he could do and he could be better, so he'd hate himself to the extent to motivate himself to do stuff then later he'd get bored of it whatever and end up being lazy again.

I have no idea what motivates us, or me.. I'm not very motivated to do anything right now. I honestly don't want to do anything, I just want to listen to some music and close my eyes.. And sleep, I'm pretty lethargic.

What demotivates me though, is alot of things. Take the school I'm in now (it probably compares to US college) I rarely attend because I don't like the people there, nobody wants to debate, to to give me perspective, the minute someone has an opinion which differs you're just marked as "that annoying guy who argues with everyone" Sure I argue alot, but I want to debate, not argue - Thesis + Antithesis = Synthesis, is pretty much the principle I run my life on.. Not alot of my peers do the same. Which is why I have absolutely no motivation, they bore me.

INTP

Interest is definitely the main thing, but there needs to be something in the subject that we want to master that we haven't yet, and it has to be something we view as worth learning. Once we've mastered something, we don't play around with it as much, unless we're trying to figure out how far it can stretch... otherwise, there are other things to learn, and other things to master.

Personally, I'm motivated to do something when it's implied that I wouldn't have the patience to do it or wouldn't be interested. That's when I attack the topic like a starving rabid Chihuahua attacks a piece of prime rib. That's also when anyone who tries to keep me from obtaining said knowledge is quickly disarmed with big words and left standing where I was a few seconds ago.

Just don't tell me I can't fly... :king-twitter: or something might happen. :phear: Oopsie.

Nothing motivates me currently. I'm floating around aimlessly as a senior in high school, just surviving with my ability to absorb information passively, and put forth tiny bursts of effort to work problems for tests, in math/science type classes. Hopefully this will pass, since I don't intend to die an old apathetic man.

Goddamn, that sounds like me fifteen years ago. Wish I could give you better advice than to snap the hell out of it. And is it possible some of the apathy is depression? I wish I had started dealing with my depression and anxiety (both of which fed my apathy) back before I dropped out of college at the least.
