What is YOUR perception of "ugly"?

"Ugly" is the state of something being repulsive as I see it. When I perceive something as being "ugly," then I don't want to eat it, make friends with it, trust it, and/or have sex with it. That is the basic idea--my instinctual reaction--though of course there are many variations of the definition as I use it.

What is not attractive. What is repulsive. What has characteristic that one does not like.

I find the skin of a classmate of mine ugly because it has a lot of acne which I think is repulsive. I also see beauty on her though. She has a beautiful smile and is a wonderful person. Another example: I find "gorgeous" an ugly word because it sounds ugly to me. IDK why, maybe it reminds me of something I don't like...

I don't like it. It doesn't fit in with the otherwise harmonious chaos of intpf. It's something I'm not quite sure how to categorize or react to.

Thanks for clarifying. The way I see it, there are only a narrow set of things that make a person beautiful, and almost everything else is ugly, so ugly is not beautiful, and beauty is a set of features that are naturally selected for the evolutionary purpose of maximizing genetic preponderance. Among all humans, beauty is symmetry, consistency of the skin, and appearances closely follow the patterns of the general population, which indicate lack of irregular genetic deformities and lack of disease.

The ugliness of an animal may serve as a deterrent for eating it, in order to deter people from eating diseased animals, and ugliness among animals is marked by the same set of features--symmetry, consistency, and regularity.

My perception of ugly: It doesn't matter how nice looking you are, if your personality sucks, then you do too.
And if there is someone who isn't so great looking, and I find pleasant being around, they start looking good to me and I would prefer their company over others.

I dont think the mind of a man works like this though. Enlighten me.

If focusing on looks only, I really think beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Everyone prefers different things. But studies have shown that symmetry, ratios, proportions, types of features, social preferences, blah blah, all the mushy stuff, play a big part in attraction.

But my perception of ugly would be... this could become a thread of insults if I actually say what I think is ugly. I mean, just because I dislike something, others may adore it.

Take for example, tanned skin. Why would anyone want to change the natural colour of their skin? All over USA I see these white people that look orange, just umpa lumpas everywhere... which is one reason I don't date often, just takes forever to find a girl who hasn't decided to transform into an umpa lumpa. That is a major factor.

Another thing regardless of gender or species, if the eyes are to far or to close to the center of the face, it is ugly. The nose also must be in the medium of the possibilities, a large nose is ugly just as much as a small one is, same with mouth etc etc. Eyes though are beautiful large and ugly if small for females.

I guess it is a personal thing, but curly hair is ugly to me, but that is probably because I have curly hair and I hate it, I guess the genetic whatever that decides these things wants a mate that has different hair, so even if the girl is beautiful, if her hair is naturally curly, I find her not attractive, but a straight haired girl that curled her hair is beautiful, not sure why, I guess it is because you can tell somehow.

Recently I discovered that I can actually find feet attractive, but long toes is ugly, short toes are very cute on a girl, I guess because a girls foot on average is relatively small so the small toes just add to her overall look.

Ugly is extremely subjective and these are some of my thoughts, so anyone who reads this, don't get offended, it was not directed at you .

This can probably be overlapped on everything to decide if I will find it ugly. Smashed in faces are ugly. Like a pug I think. I have seen humans with smashed in faces, I think they look horrible. Also shovel faced people, pretty much similar to smashed in faces, but they could have been normal but it looks like their face was smacked too many times with a shovel, example would be the guy that plays the sparkly vampire I see on the television commercials.

Typically a nose that is upturned or pointing upwards because it is curved too much looks ugly, unless the girl has enough beauty elsewhere to where the shape is actually adorable. I guess most of my examples could be just like this, if enough of the face is within the same style or whatever, the ugly factor could possibly not be ugly and actually made the girl adorable.

Though regardless I admit any female that looks to masculine, she is ugly, I'd assume the same would be for a male that looked too feminine.

Beards look nasty ugly. Nails that aren't taken care of and look a tree bark are ugly, no teeth or rotting teeth are ugly, the decaying body of a drug addict is ugly.

I am sure I could continue to keep adding more and more subjective things but I will stop since it seem redundant.

Oh, oops, my last post was a description of ugly as I see it, which is physical.

Personality wise I don't see as ugly, I would call it something different, mostly I don't like it, I don't label it ugly, just horrible, disgusting, bad, negative, they should die, slut, whore, stupid, etc etc.

I decided to add this to another post since the other one is too long as it is and describes something different and I just realized I should clarify this.

I used to think being fat was the worst thing that could make you ugly...it's funny how I really couldn't care more about that anymore, I'm honestly not capable of judging people completely superficially anymore, and humor is the absolute best thing to have. You honestly would have to be such a fucking bitch or asshole for me to see you as ugly...or at least I may call you ugly to my friends, but I would cringe just because I don't honestly see you as such...nah fuck that I'd prolly get into an argument and find a photo of the person first before calling the straight up ugly, most everybody has some beautiful quality in them that should be noted, though there ARE those in the world that have no redeeming quality whatsoever...hrmmm...maybe, I haven't met one like that methinks, but I won't say they are out there. And yes, instincts play a part, big boobs and a bug butt and all that jazz.. it kinda sucks not being able to turn that off.

hrmmm, just took a breather, so lets see, I guess I would say my perspective of "ugly" come from the humor, wisdom, and hrmmm...aww hell I'll throw in boobs, just to a lesser extent, annnd, I guess, that's good enough for now?
