In my sleep at an old age, hopefully having accomplished enough of my goals to feel at peace with myself. Also in a good place with family etc.

I used to think dying during your sleep would be the best death, but I've started to think just dying painlessly when you're awake could be an interesting experience to have too. It would be your last, the experience, but the experience of your consciousness sleeping away into oblivion would be novel.

I suppose getting knocked out or using anesthetic are the only surefire ways to die without pain. 'Dying in your sleep' likely means months of physical illness preceding the event. The quickest deaths take at least a few painful seconds and most take at least a few minutes. If you're planning to die from natural causes it will be an even slower affair.

Death is ugly, no way around it. If you're lucky enough to be under anesthetic you've usually already spent time in illness/pain, so achieving that form of pain reduction seems rather pointless to me. Pain is nigh inevitable except in extremely traumatic or meticulously planned occurrences, so it seems pointless to dwell on avoiding pain.

I focus on other aspects instead. I'd like to retain dignity inasmuch as possible; avoid mental and physical decline. Die as myself, still sharp. I'm probably one of very few that would prefer to have no witnesses and die in solitude. An audience, even one of beloved people wouldn't comfort me whatsoever. I've been with a couple of elderly relatives, close to passing... No, I wouldn't want people just waiting around for me to meet my end, it's horrifying. Maybe I'll feel different as I get older, but I simply cannot see how it's comforting to either the dying or those close to them. I'd rather they give me a final farewell and leave.

If you want to experience that, smoke some DMT.

No, this is not a 'loldrugs' comment - I'm being deadly serious. Want to know what it feels like to have your ego annihilated and experience complete certainty that you have ejected your meat chariot?

DMT, bro.

Just watch out for the aliens etc.

If I died on the operating table while going cybernetic I'd be okay with that, as I like to say "live forever or die trying" and I've had plenty of time to consider the likelihood of dying while trying, I'd die in peace knowing that at least I'd tried my best and I was just unlucky.

Dying slowly in a hospital bed is terrifying, I'd rather kill myself than have to go through being visited by mournful friends and family.

laughter induced heart attack before loss of faculties, hopefully while displaying the phrase "do not resuscitate" somewhere on my newly lifeless corpse

I heard that suicide via CO2 is like falling asleep, but the idea of death is something... I mean, dying?

I'd accept anything but terminal illnesses, esp. cancer or hiv, must be horrible to lose your capabilities and won't be able to live on your own (besides it makes people around you care and make things they wouldn't usually do, and that's some kind of lying IMO).

Idk if you guys know who Dross is (venezuelan horror/thriller youtuber), but according to him on one of his videos he explains how "dyingwhile sleep" can be the result of terrible nightmares, and for the little I know from my subconscious, I definitely don't want to die in such scenario.

Fly an armed warhead into the ground at post supersonic speeds. It would put new meaning to the phrase "leaving your mark" and it would just be fun really.

CO2 poisoning is initially unnoticeable, but you will experience all sorts of nasty symptoms near the end like convulsions, nausea, headaches and will panic and feel like you're suffocating.

You'd want an inert gas like helium or nitrogen.

That makes more sense.

Can we talk about suicide methods? Just in case you know you are going to die and prefer a quicker escape.
Jumping to the train railways doesn't seem that painful.
I mean you die instantly. Its awful tho.
Or by jumping from a 8 floor.
Or gun.
Maybe someone knows if by these you still experience those seconds of infinite pain adaire mentioned.

Opiate overdose. You don't feel a thing, and no big mess for people to clean up afterwards, like jumping or shooting yourself.

In Japan, they made a law so that the family of the deceased has to pay for the losses incurred for the traffic the suicide causes, as well as the clean up costs. Suicide on the tracks happen ever so often too, like I've been on train lines where it happened. Happens at least once a month or so.

The death is the unimportant and uninteresting part.

What's important is what happens after death.

The best choice is to rot, wrapped perhaps in a light linen, worms wriggling through decomposing organs, beetles nibbling on putrid flesh, soft with the moisture of earth.

Brain aneurysm. No symptoms. You just suddenly die. There's also a sleep version called Sudden adult death syndrome. Again you just die without any symptoms.

I think blowing myself up in front of a crowd would be fun. All my insides would be plastered over their faces and they'd remember it probably for the rest of their lives. Especially, if I put on a cordial and friendly show and they didn't know it was coming. Makes me feel warm and fuzzy inside. :twisteddevil:

Even when it's very likely painful and long lasting, dying from a terminal illness may have something worthed, it makes everyone around you deeple care all of a sudden, and making things they won't usually do. It might help if you're used to be on your own with depressive thoughts.

Now, regarding what should people do with my corpse... I'd like to be incinerated (on a viking way if possible), the idea of me roting is... disgusting.

Long periods of pain would suck. Something quicker, even if it hurts for a split second, would be better. Maybe I could have my intrinsic field removed and become the next Doctor Manhattan. I mean, pain is pain. All you have to do is endure it, if you know how much, and avoid suffering too much. I think much of the fear is not necessarily death (if you know you cannot avoid death in a situation), it's the fear that either it will take a long time and will be incredibly painful OR your body will be irreparably damaged and yet you will survive and be in pain and lesser capacity for a long time after. Once you ACCEPT your death, it becomes easier to endure.

In a way, it's kinda fascinating to wonder what death would feel like or at least the moments before you die. But you only get to experience it once, typically.

Now, regarding what should people do with my corpse... I'd like to be incinerated (on a viking way if possible), the idea of me roting is... disgusting.

Very true. I would like my body to be filled full of preservatives and properly colored by master artists so that the rotting process is completely halted, and that way when I come back as a lich bitch, everyone will still bow to my unchanging beauty as well as to my unlimited cosmic/arcane power.

Or you just end up being a coat hanger...or a necrophiliac's, ummm, toy. But you'll be dead anyway, so who cares!

Thanks a lot Jenny. I laughed at this and earned a strange stare and subsequent inquisition from my friend.

Good after death plan though.

Maybe this may start some impossible ramble, but wouldn't be cool to be thrown to a supermassive black hole?

I mean, time delay would make the eldest being in the universe in seconds (yeah, if tidal forces doesn't tear you apart first... but that's why it must be supermassive), just think about it, seconds before the event horizon you could actually see the universe evolving.

But I'm pretty sure you'd be dead much quicker than you expect, anyway, at least there you're protected from wild necrophiles.
