I have split the poll into two categories: for INTPs and non-INTPs... Please use it accordingly. Hopefully we will get to see some cool trends.

Wow, pretty equally split at the moment. My best friend, although not tested, I would be certain is an ESTJ. Although it's always hard to tell whether someone is E or I, especially in my friendship circle where alcohol is such a common denominator that everyone is such an E whenever I see them.

We get along very well, have known each other 10 years, have very similar tastes in video games, films and that sort of thing.

Two best friends, INTP (tested himself and I independently verified) and (I believe) ISFP. Not sure which one is better. I'd like to say the INTP but as he is one is more hands off.

At the moment I don't really know who my best friend is.

I have an INTJ friend with whom I can get along with, but he can be very judgmental at times and jump to hasty conclusions. In the past I could easily get into his frame of thought and go along with him just for laughs, but over the past year I've grown out of judging things I guess. When he now goes on a rant about how stupid people can be, I can't help but noticing I very much dislike it. And I also dislike the disliking. Since I didn't spend the last year in school with him, I didn't see him that much and maybe we've grown apart? Apart from the judging and hasty conclusions, which is about 7-11% of the time I guess, it's outstanding company.

Another friend I've got is an ESFP. It's odd though. We have a very intuitive understanding of eachother, and we can get a lot of things done with little to no words. We think the same thoughts about many things. But then again, she's got Se, which is really uncomfortable for me when strong. My Ti also goes deeper and further than her Fi, so I might get stuck on things in our friendship she has long forgotten. Which can bug me sometimes. Thing I like most about her is she understands my need for alone time, privacy and all that jazz. She even says to me when at a party at her house, that if I need to, I can go upstairs and play guitar for a while. Really awesome.

Anywho, if I had to choose to abandon one of them in a 47.2 square miles wildlife resort with 9 rabid hyenas, I'd go with the INTJ.

I'd also get the whole thing on camera and sell it to any tvstation willing to buy it. Nothing says quality tv more than a semi-sociopath contriving ways to kill hyenas and making a plan to get back at me.

Don't really have a best friend right now, in the past they have been ISTP, INTJ, ESTP, INFP. Hoping I will find an INTP I get a long with great sometime.

INTP friends are educational. What's great is that you have somebody you can discuss anything with. The downside is that you get to see all of your own predilections thrown back at you.

For example, INTP's are famous for being hard to pin down for social engagements. I'm hugely that way, I don't like having my free time scheduled, and I like a lot of free time. So most of my time, or as much as possible is unstructured. That way I get maximum time to sit around, think, study, work.

So I'd like to get together with my friend after work. Just have him come over, we sit in the back yard with a few telescopes and look at the stars with a drink or two maybe and talk. He wants to do it, but somehow the two of us can never quite pin ourselves down to actually doing it.

Two INTP's in a pod.

I don't really know who to count as my "best friend," sometimes I feel ultimately alone in the world regardless of who I know.

If I had to pick a few different ones, I would say:

INFP
ENFJ
INTP

While I do like some diversity in my friendships (and have friends of all various types, race, creed, nationality, age, gender), my closest friendships usually are based on similarity -- we connect and share similar responses/perceptions of things.

As of now my best friend is an ENTJ. We've been friends for 9 years now. I kind of feel like I've outgrown him though. I often find excuses to avoid going out with him and our third friend and find myself becoming frequently annoyed by a lot of things that he does. He's religious as well, which I find annoying in a friend, since there are a lot of things that he can't do and we obviously have different views on most subjects. There aren't really any alternatives for me at the moment, but I think I would like an INTP, INFP or ISFP friend. When you have extroverted friends they usually pester you to go out with them, and my friends always whine for 20 minutes if I refuse.

Had a dream that I beat him up just recently... What does that mean? :S

Non-INTP voted INTJ

Although my S.O. is either INFP (or more likely I am thinking probably ISFP as well), my best friends are INTJ and INTP. They are also best friends with each other.

Weird dynamics play out. I prefer the company of the INTP because he is rarely miserable, a condition which the INTJ seems pre-disposed to. However, the INTJ is more fun overall, after running thru dozens or hundreds of scenarios. It has been easier to spend more quality time with INTPs and higher quantities of time with INTJs.

Maybe I should have just voted INTP but he also cut me out for a few years so it's hard to hand off the gold medal like that. Er, but I have also treated the INTJ the same way...

i can't prove it but i knew you would vote INTJ before clicking.

have you mentioned this before?

Yes most likely I have, as he lives with me as my roommate and we have been friends for years and I basically just post about real simple, daytoday things like who my friends are and how long I've known them.

Also, the very loud midday thunder that is rattling my house right now and scaring all of my animals. So cool. Storm in t minus 5 minutes. Hot July weather in Alberta.

I'm prone to posting the same bits of information repeatedly??

And the type you voted for is... ESTP. (must check after to see if even possible)

Edit: I can see that it is not. You voted INTP didn't you?

haha you're such a charming mixture of self-hatred and abrasiveness. for the record i don't perceive your posts as fundamentally about simple daytoday business.

i voted INFJ... difficult choice though. close second or split first are INTJ ISFJ ENFP.

Looking back on this one it's interesting how we do gravitate towards similar types for friends. INTPs got the most votes, with one letter variations following. It must work the same for other types too.

My best male friend is INTP.
My best female friend, well, it's a toss-up between INFP and ENFJ.

An ISTP, an ISFP and an ESTJ. I get along with each of them in very different ways. But yeah, on reflection, 3 of my closest friends at the moment are S-doms...

My best friend of 15 years is an ENTP with a low E preference and I have a weak I preference (INTP)so when we get together and hang out I can sometimes get loud and rambunctious with him but he also enjoys just hanging out and gaming or just having some beers and shooting the shit for a while. We have a lot of interests in common as well as beliefs but that's also because we've had such a large and long influence on each other's lives.

I have two people I consider best friends. One's an ESFP. Although not tested, it's obvious that he is. He's always outward and is the life of the party or the class clown a lot, thus fitting the name 'the Performer'. I usually would never consider en ESFP, but he's into some of my weird crap like Tf2 so we have our common ground. His girlfriend, you could call her, is likely an INTP or something introverted like that, so it's obvious that he associates himself with the likes of me. My ESTP friend sort of surprised me when he tested as it, but he's weird on my level, so we get along well. I've noticed that my friends, especially the ESFP, say that I am brutally honest. I can't flatter people. Flattering people hurts me, because I'd much rather give them full honesty. I'm surprised that my friends are E's, because I am anything but popular.
