If there has been another thread like this I apologize, I'm still new here and didn't see one.

I noticed most of us seem to be pretty similar in a lot of respects and I wondered if that included likes and dislikes of food as well (I know there will be culture differences). Religious and dietary concerns aside, what do you like to eat?
Are you someone that eats just because your body needs it to keep going or do you like to enjoy your food?

I prefer homemade cake and ice cream (actually I enjoy most home cooking but that depends on the cook and if I don't like it I have no problem letting them know).
I rather have seafood and chicken than steak and pork.
And I think fresh fruits and vegetables rule.
Swiss cheese, rye bread, spicy and bold flavors, these are a few of my favorite things.

Above you, watching every move.
I don't see why there would be similarities, but I guess it's worth investigating.

Food I like... Sushi, ice cream, chocolate... I don't have preferences in meat (the only thing I don't like is steak), I don't like eating any of them, since I don't think it's fair for defenseless animals to be killed and made food that easily. We kill other animals whenever we want to, but we're always protected against other animals that want to hunt us. Not fair.

Basically my favorite foods are cold foods and "carbohidrate" foods. I don't eat just carbohidrates, that wouldn't be so healthy, but I tend to choose that kind of food over a... Grilled salmon, let's say. And among those, I prefer sweet things.

Also I don't know if the words I'll use next are correct or not, I hope you understand what I say. I prefer soft flavors (vanille ice cream, sushi, lemonade) over strong ones (chocolate ice cream, hamburguers, grapefruit juice). Oh and I like some fruits and some others I don't. Vegetables... They aren't my favorite food, but I can eat them, except for some I really dislike.

I've talked way too much :phear:

Fruit- raspberries, blackberries, pineapple are among my favorites.
I also like most vegetables and most meat with the exception of turkey.
I usually don't especially like snacks like cake because I just don't like the feeling of being full, but ice-cream is good and sexy.

Chinese with Chinese people speaking in Chinese around me. Spaghetti with a person in T.V. eating the same and over-exaggerating the taste.

I find food satisfaction to be very psychological.

Sushi. Spicy tuna rolls, fantastic. But I get a different kind of sushi every time I go to the sushi bar.
Many fruits, few vegetables. Kiwi, raspberries, lemons, watermelon...yum.
More seafood and poultry than beef and pork.

Spicy things. I can be a total masochist when it comes to spicy things.

Sometimes after I've eaten "complex" foods for a while, things with a lot of flavours or ingredients, then I get a craving for "simple" things like...bread and cheese. Or a plain piece of fruit. And the opposite happens after I eat simple things for a while.

spicy foods are supposed to release dopamine because your primordial brain - or the vestiges of it - think your mouth is on fire and sends analgesic relief. endorphins might be in the mix too, not sure. either way, the spicier the better.

Of course it's not fair, nature isn't fair.

I used to live on a small farm, sort of a hobby farm for my at-the-time stepfather, well anyway one of the ewes gives birth, my mother gets all sentimental over this lamb, then eventually we have it butchered (as you do) and at the dinner table my mother is having a moral crisis over the lamb on her plate.

Being the understanding son I am, I looked her in the eye, and said “baaa”.
She gave me her lamb, and yes, it was delicious.

I have no soul :D

I'm not too fond of food. It's probably not healthy eating the way I do. I eat at very random times, and I can starve for quite some time before I bother to make something.

I like chocolate, though.

I quickly grow tired with food, I have no favorites.

indian food.

Oh hells yeah! I've learned quite a bit about Indian cooking and can do some things. My favorite cuisine over the last 10 years.

It's easier to list my dislikes than my likes: Raw or undercooked onion, olives, green bell pepper (I'm hell to be around on pizza night) and chitlins. That's all I can think of at the moment.

I'm quite the consumer of steak and potatoes. If I had extreme capabilities of digesting, rapidly breaking down foods as I pleased, I'm fairly certain I would eat them every meal. I am also fond of fruits and veggies. Never been a huge fan of candy/sweets.

I do also like popcorn and pretzels. One of my favorite snacks.

I have a simple philosophy when it comes to food; If it don't eat me first then it's fair game. Although I do prefer fruits and veggies.

BTW, What does a soul taste like?

Press display for immature response.

...pussy :p

Umm, it'd probably be quicker to name what I don't like to eat !

My favourites are:

Animal Products: beef (preferably grassfed and fillet steaks), chicken (thighs), fish (cod, dhufish, halibut, salmon, tuna) kangaroo, venison, eggs, cheese (cheddar, brie, blue), natural yoghurt
Vegetables/Fruits: spinach, avocado, bok choy, choy sum, broccoli, cherry tomatoes, orange, any type of berries, figs, grapes, passionfruit, olives, potatoes (homemade oven baked chips are amazing!)
Grains/Bread: quinoa, rice (basmati or jasmine), cape seed bread or rolls
Nuts: walnuts, almonds, cashews, pistachios
Sweets: dark chocolate (70-80% cocoa), sticky date pudding, crepes, apple pie, fruit sorbets, lemon merigue pie, creme brulee

Cuisines: Thai, Malaysian, Japanese, Indian, Mexican, English, Middle Eastern, Fusion ... umm I like most cuisines to some extent really.

As for the second question - "a little bit from column and a little bit from column b" (mainly a though) - I eat to increase and/or maintain energy levels first and foremost as that is the main purpose of eating, but I like to make or buy food that taste good and have a variety to prevent boredom and also take in a wide variety of nutrients/vitamins/minerals etc.

I'd be open to a conventional-meal-replacing joypaste, though. Choosing things/eating them is a hassle.

I like nearly anything that's well made. But here are the positive and negative highlights:

Favorites: thai food, all varieties of chicken soup, authentic mexican food, indian food, sourdough bread, shrimp, salmon, italian food, lemon curd, dark chocolate, peaches, apples

Not so favorite: red meat, wasabi (I don't get why it's such a big deal), crab, shellfish (this video doesn't help)

Yeah, on the subject of junk food... Shit food like Maccas (Mickey D's, McDonald's), Burger King/Hungry Jack's, etc are satisfying like nothing else. (Except that I say that about everything.) I don't know if it's the low pricing, or the contentment that only comes with clogged arteries/knowing you've done something bad to yourself, or the taste (pretty damn good, really; cardboard doesn't taste that hot - not at all a fair comparison), or the fact that it's often the closest I get to a 'proper' meal (generally subsist on anzac biscuits and a shit-ton of cereal).

I think cheap junk just can't be beat.

Whole boiled eggs, delicious treats, although I just ate four of them and I've made myself sick, now I'm aware that I'm complaining about something that I've only got myself to blame for is idiotic, but there is a point to this, that point being that although I feel absolutely terrible right now, this will not deter me from doing it again.

They were worth it.

Uuuggghh I wanna die.
(but not really, because I've got whole boiled eggs to look forward to)

I can't even walk into a fast food place without getting sick. You know that delicious greasy fried food smell that pervades every hamburger joint? It just fills my nose and makes me incredibly nauseous. That being said I love french fries. LOVE THEM! In order to get them I have to run in, order them quick, and try not to breath until I get out the door with them. I refuse to use the drive up window.

I have no moral qualms with eating meat. Meat is yummy. In the words of Sokka: "You're awfully cute, but unfortunately for you you're made of meat." Heh, I was picking on my mother a while back for wanting to shoot Bambi the young deer that keeps wandering into our yard and eating her roses. I actually quite like deer meat but I was ribbing her for it anyway. Finally she turned to me and said, "do you know how many baby rabbit necks I'd snapped by the time I was your age?" :D

As for a favorite cuisine it's a toss up between Italian, Indian, and Thai. I love them all.

I like food. I don't really have favourites, but my diet is limited by my shocking digestion. I don't eat foods with added sugar or cow's milk products, and I eat few processed foods (which give me terrible indigestion without fail). I'm not supposed to eat red meats (though I don't particularly like them, we have them occasionally) or foods with strong spices (which I eat regardless).

I think I like flavours more than specific foods, like lemon, vinegar, salt, coconut, a plethora of spices and most herbs (I detest fennel, however).

I tend to have a strong craving for things that have a lot of protein, such as meat, nuts, a lot of things that have soy as a major ingredient, and eggs.
Also love chocolate, but I'm pretty limited as far as what chocolate I can have, since dairy and my digestive system don't agree. Also big into coffee, and tea, granted those aren't things your really eat.

I really do love to eat, though hunger can be annoying when you have other things demanding your attention, and can't get away from them to eat.

My stomach has become very touchy so there's lots of things I've been cutting out of my diet to figure out what sets it off and what doesn't.

I tend to like food that feels "simple", like meatballs, fish sticks (and no, I am not a gay fish), hamburgers and things like that. Of course I can appreciate more... "advanced" food (like Arthur C. Clarke said: "Any sufficiently advanced food is indistinguishable from magic") but it doesn't feel as comfortable, I guess? Wow, am I seriously expanding my comfort zone to include food? Also I eat hamburgers/pizzas/kebabs about five times a week, and still I have almost no fat on my body (182 cm 59 kg, don't tell me to get muscles or anything, I do not want to weigh more than I do know and I don't want that much muscles. I don't really know why.). WHERE DOES IT ALL GO?

Also, it feels a lot more rewarding to not have high bars for what you like. People who like eating things with much ketchup, enjoy watching Two and a Half Men and see ball-in-a-cup as a great toy are, in a way, blessed.

Loves alots:
- Onions, they make everything better
- Peanut butter n jelly sammiches, the most perfect food evarrr
- Spinach!
- Pasta nomnomnom
- Almost any fish imaginable
- Coffee, except it doesn't agree with me, except I agree that I should drink it anyway (I treat my body poorly, probably to offset my attempts to treat it well)

Vomit:
- Don't really like red meat, meh
- Anything too dry
- Pineapple (don't try to reason with me)
- Anything called 'liver'; actually anything named after an organ can pretty much go
- Sunny D!
- Fast food, though I will eat it hypocritically
- That stuff that's been in the freezer for eight years
- Anything too sugary, due to blood sugar issues (I still eat it though)

Indifferent about:
- Most fruits and vegetables, but whatever, must be healthy nomnom!
- Salads that have no lettuce... or anything resembling salad-friendly foods. I don't know what to call these...
- Dairy. Ice cream is gods but it doesn't 'agree' with me. My attempts at debating it have thus been unsuccessful.
- Cereal. I friggin' love the cute characters on the box but generally find the contents therein disappointing. I'm rarely as enthusiastic about a damn bowl of cereal. Just sayin'
- 'Treats'. The very word evokes positive thoughts and raises expectations, leading to ultimate heartbreak. I find the real 'treats' are those old standbys: week-old bread, potato ...stuff of some sort, anything in a brightly-colored box that seems fun.

I wish food weren't a consideration though, seriously. I'd love to not have to think about such things when I'm reading something while starving to death. Plus, I find it takes 2-100 times as long to prepare a meal as it takes to consume it. I say we need alternative energy!
