What colleges could I possibly get into?

To be honest I have no idea what I want in life, but I still want to get into the best institution I can. I wonder if I could get into any UC schools or any well acclaimed boards with mystats, but I have no reference point for comparison.

So, assuming I have a 3.6 unweighted gpa, a 3.95 weighted gpa and a sat score of 2050 (1400 w/o writing 700 on the other two) and a desire to major in technology, what would be a good school for me?
I live in Cali and Im wondering if I have a chance with UCLA. :/

No idea, the ways and means of UC acceptance officers are mysterious :phear:

However most of my work colleagues are sending kids off to UC schools now (baby boomers), and I know from that that it is the most competitive environments in recent memory. Again this is due to all the boomers sending their over achieving kids to school. Nutters ... regardless your scores look pretty good to me.

Good tech schools are UC Davis, Berkeley, maybe UCLA. I'd suggest staying away from Berkeley unless you have a thick skin, they tend to chew students up and spit them out. Davis is one of the best tech feeder schools, we hire kids out of there all the time at my high tech company.

Well, I attended one of the better schools in the nation and it was something of a mistake for my GPA in college sucked relative to H. S.. Looking back I should have attended some second-tier school, pulled a 4.0 GPA, so that with my GRE scores, I would have been accepted into any grad school I applied to.

College degrees are practically worthless except as a necessary prerequisite for grad school. I would be focusing on getting into the grad school of choice, rather than the college of choice.

As far as the numbers, there are several reference guides that list the average entrance scores of accepted Freshmen. I would find a school where one's own scores are far above average, rather than one where one's scores are just a bit above average....

I don't see why not; those are decent scores.

I agree.

I went to a community college, took all the mind-numbing prerequisite courses VERY cheaply and then transferred to the public university that offered me the most money. While there, I researched all the professors and took classes from the ones who themselves had Ivy League educations and managed to get a great education at a reasonable price.

But, unlike many, I got my degrees for personal reasons, not "to get a job," so, I didn't have the same sorts of risks and anxieties that some others have.

Maybe. What's your ethnicity?

With prestigious schools or programs, sometimes it's better to get in for one thing and switch to another major. Make sure that's possible or desirable beforehand.

I had a buddy who got into Cornel with those numbers though. You definitely have a shot at UCLA or Berkeley depending on extracurriculars, interview (where applicable) and letters.

Another guy I knew scored 29 on the ACT and got into Stanford; he happened to be latino.

Check this out. http://www.collegeboard.org/

I think you have a decent shot. I'm applying to a few UCs this year as well. My GPA is/was about the same as yours (perhaps a bit lower) and my SAT was 2050 also. If you have enough extracurriculars and/or the essays for your application are really good, then I think you should be fine.

Did you take any SAT Subject Tests? Those are helpful. I think UCs accept the ACT as well, which I found easier than the SAT. And yeah, being a minority ethnicity helps too.

Well, thanks for all the answers guys.
As for my ethnicity, I am Half Asian/Half Indian (one Indian parent and another from Taiwan) and I'm wondering if that affects my chances at all. Regardless, I was surprised to hear that my scores were decent, because my class rank is very low among my grade. How much does class rank matter?
Also, what constitutes "extracurricular activities"? A band class, a choir class, piano lessons, a part-time job, tennis lessons, or do you actually have to contribute something that requires outside school time?
It sounds like "extracurricular activities" can be easily B.S'd in a lot of applications, because if not it doesn't seem like my chances are very high.

EDIT: There is also a very negative stigma attached with community colleges...does this mean much to companies that are hiring?

Here's what matters to companies that are hiring:

1) Competence: can you do what you've been hired to do?
2) Socialization: can you function with the others who work there?
3) Dependability: will your attendance be excellent, will you do what you're asked to do?

...

99) Where you went to school.

How are you not a shoo-in with those grades, scores, and underlying ethnicity?! Actually, The Bell Curve has documented reverse discrimination against asians at some UC schools. Good luck! The indian flavoring is probably in your favor! :D

Seriously interested in how that would look, half Indian and half Taiwanese. The merging of two very different physical appearances.

A hairless Indian? Excuse me if I am being offensive but just very curious as I am a mildly self-loathing brown one.

I always wondered whether schools in the US are easy or I really suck. I had a GPA of 2.3 and I was still better than some people.

Isn't Tiger Woods half-black and half-Vietnamese?

Blacks and Asians have no hair and short noses. You could imagine it happening. He's actually half Black and half Thai.

Indian and Asian should be a proper clash. Like a grungy European Asian mix. I guess dominant traits might make up for most of the physical appearance.

Tiger is Thai, Chinese, Dutch, African American and Native American but who's counting? :D

You guys are scurrying little fact checkers par excellence.

Hahaha...I love how my race has attracted so many answers than colleges. To ease the curiosity, my father met my mother during a business trip, no older than 25 years old, and brought her to America. Romantic, isn't it?

Ugh...If I go to a community college, my parents will kill me...because then all my efforts of getting decent grades in high school would be wasted.

Wait, don't INTPs usually go to Harvard? Maybe I'm doing it wrong. :/
