What are the ideal ENTP careers?

I'm chewing on this question to help a close friend. I want to come up with a short list of ideal ENTP careers. She is 27 y/o and needs to get started on some path. Chinese national. Fluent in English and Chinese. Educated in the US with a bachelor's in IR/politics (I think?). Formerly had several internships in journalism and was very interested in that. Before you suggest she go back to it, you would have to explain how she gets around the censorship issue in China, and it's apparently very difficult/impossible for a Chinese to become a full-time reporter for a foreign news bureau. Also she does not seem keen on working for a Chinese news bureau b/c apparently it's a lot of ass-kissing, and there are severe restrictions on what you are allowed to cover and what you are allowed to say, especially if it's critical of the government in any way.

CS seems to be a great recommendation for INTPs, but is there a corresponding "ideal" field for ENTPs? It needs to be a realistic option, i.e. something that has a real shot of providing financial security. Please no fantasy or "in theory..." careers. I'm interested in passing along to her some actionable options...

Can she move out of China? She might have a better chance of getting a less restrictive job in the West.

I was thinking that she can temporarily be an English instructor/ teacher so that she can raise funds while she is thinking about her plans for the future.

Funds are not an issue at the moment. A viable option would be studying in the US, but the question is what field?

My current location is classified.
Yeah, reporters have it tough, but if the job were perfect it would be perfect for ENTPs. I'm not really sure what else, sorry.

Hmmm in that case it's probably best that she move back to the US for studies. She can work as a part-time journalist whilst finishing advance courses in journalism (It's possible since I'm doing full-time work while studying part-time). That way, when she finishes her studies, she has both theoretical and practical knowledge in her field. I really think it would be a waste if she doesn't use that internship of hers to her advantage.

It's funny you should say that, I was reading somewhere recently that there are more ISFPs in journalism than anything. Maybe it was print journalism. I suppose that would make a difference.

ENTPs might also be happy as a research professor in a science field.

"ENTP's CS" is in writing related fields - editor or critic. I think ENFP's are better suited for more journalistic roles encompassing current events and reporting news. But both fit the role due to being Ne dom.

I think it would work out as long as their teaching load is greater than their research load.

How about a journalist that specializes in Science news for OP's friend?

Sales, law, journalism or some form of consultancy.

This sounds like every job.

If she has a visa to work in the US already then sales or PR is her best bet. If she doesn't have a visa she's SOL unless she wants to go back to school for an engineering degree.

No idea what her stance on emigrating and such is, but I'd wager that her primary passion is for journalism or a derivative of it.

You have stated that it would be difficult for her to join a foreign reporting organization.
(That generates income, and does not rely on anonymous sourcing[Theoretically one can bypass the Chinese censorship with advanced knowledge of proxies and vpns{china has begun blockin vpns iirc} or a working copy of tails, but then the reporting one does will in all likelihood bring no income, and will have to be of considerable content to make a noticeable impact])

So, seeing as she has studied in the US of A, career-wise in terms of journalism that would be her best option atm.
She may not immediately get the job she wants, but with effort it becomes probable.
(With rising political discourse between the US and China, and with continued economic shakiness, someone versed in both cultures in the reporting industry may have a higher demand)

Hmm in short, if she has no familial, social or other objections, obtaining american citizenry seems like the congenial course of action.

Real estate might be a good choice. It's not really an NT sort of thing since you'd have to meet with a lot of people, but there's a lot of rich Chinese clients who want to purchase housing these days, especially in the west coast. I have a friend who's in it and sells a house like every week and a half on average. If she had experience in journalism she might to well in it, not to mention she has a degree in international relations.

My initial thought was lawyer, like an international or a corporate one, but that takes a bit of effort and a lot of time (since she's 27 :x).

Oh and being a translator is another good idea too. If you join a decent translator firm you can rack up a lot of money. I imagine China is in need a lot of that right now.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

-Sales
-law
-journalism
-consulting
-filmmaking
-teaching
-writing/editing

These are all good ideas. I think consulting could really be hit or miss. She would almost certainly be bored with straight-up management consulting, but I could potentially see her working in a scientific consultancy of sorts. She seems more interested in politics/history than science.

She tried PR and hated it.

I have heard that while ENTPs may in theory be good in sales, she grew up fairly well-off, and I don't think she has the killer instinct/drive necessary to be good in this area.

Being a lawyer seems like a bad bet these days in the US, and I think it would be even more so in China. She really doesn't like the Chinese government. I will still run this by her though.

She has tried teaching and really enjoyed it. Problem is the poverty factor in China. It is by no means a lucrative profession here in the US either and to go the college/university route usually requires getting a PhD. She seemed down on the prospect of academia.
