That's still legal?
Drowns out AM radio (obviously) and I hear it messes with FM within a small area too which is more problematic because it can mess with wifi and TV signals, or so I've heard.
It is still very popular. The FCC has very tight guidelines on this. And it is illegal to operate outside of them. A proper HAM setup (proper grounding and shielding) should not cause these problems. At least in a perfect world anyway, But there are instances where anomalies occur, and the EMI leakage needs to be tracked down and addressed. If you live out in a rural area, your setup can be sloppy, and you can hot rod your rig. No one will notice. But in the city, your system has to be tight, and in places like apartments, sometimes the structures wiring is faulty, causing grounding issues.
AM interference is the most susceptible of course, but AM is also susceptible to power transmission lines, florescent lighting, neon lighting, electric motors, etc....
I never got into it much, it was a family members set that I have some experience with. But I was not enticed enough to dive into it. I have enough Government ruled and regulations in my life. Whyinvite more???
