For the past couple of years every personality test I've taken has said I'm an INTP. Without a doubt I fit the profile very well, Ti is certainly dominant and I definitely use Ne. But at the same time, I enjoy working with my hands, I can only stay alone with my thoughts for so long, and my long-term goals are pretty much summarized as "see and experience everything."

So, I don't think I'm an ISTP, as my brain and Se don't seem to get along very well, yet most of my attitudes towards life and living are very ISTP-like. As much as I enjoy theorizing, my primary concern is usually with more practical issues, and I don't feel any need to try to improve society (Is that an INTP trait?). So am I just a self-centered INTP with some odd quirks or an ISTP embedded in an INTP's consciousness? Or some other sort of thing?

You are an INTP because you are posting in the INTPf. Nuff said.

Same here. I think I am IXTP too.

I am constantly chasing thrills, engaging in physical activities, working out, playing basketball, driving fast, and ignoring subjects that I think I won't need in the future.

There is one thing though, I have poor physical skills. I can't work with my hands well with objects. I guess bad eye to hand coordination. I am a bit clumsy and dreamy.

The ISTPs at ISTP forum rejected me and also suggested I was an ENTP.

EJ Arendee commented ISTPs being very serious about their activities. They aren't all that laid back. They also see immediate answers and don't like considering other possibilities.

You're both INTPs probably. Look into your eneagram if you want more of an explanation about which kind of INTP you are.

Come to the dark side.

Differences I've noticed on the subject (ISTP v. INTP):

1. INTPs aren't interested in how things work. They want to think and talk about nonsense all day.

2. cancel this one

3. Intuitive types in real life are exactly the ones who you can take one look at and think, oh ok wow so you use your brain to get ahead.

4. They can't wedge a door open properly on the first try.

5. 85% of sensors can throw a football farther than 85% of intuitives.

6. They (N) can step on a pop bottle and wonder where the noise came from.

7. They (N) can't catch.

8. Their (N) frame-rate for visual processing is slower. I think it's like flipping a deck of cards and remembering where the King of spades lands. Also getting hit in the face.

haha that was fun, anyways, I'm not 100% sure what my type is I'm just rolling with ISTP right now it could be INFJ. Unsure about Si at all so reluctant to type myself Si-dom.

But I did test out INTP the first 8 times I wrote the test..(edit: INTJ once)... it means nothing at all.

Personally, I don't think Se equates to kinesthetics. It is an observed tendency of Se types. Se is about how you take in information from the world, not whether you like to play sports. Again, my opinion.

I type myself as ISTP because I tend to notice missing literal details (though I'm otherwise fairly oblivious) and logical inconsistencies. I see everything pretty literally. I have a hard time understanding abstract theories unless I understand the point and the framework for it. In order to understand figurative language, I must first understand the underlying principle to it.

NOTE: I want to make clear that I can pick up abstract theories just fine, I just don't see the point unless I have a reason to. Being a Sensor does not mean: can't understand abstract things. My IQ is in the 98th percentile, based on a psycho-educational assessment conducted by a qualified psychologist. :P With that said, there is a difference between what I can do and what I do naturally.

I have a problem-solving mind. I don't seek knowledge for the sake of it (I can't stand doing that). I seek knowledge when I have a practical reason to.

I hope some of this helps!

I believe what happens is a very small and specific region of your cortex is used for perceiving data.

True Ne (my guess - not proven fact), is using almost 90% of the surface of the brain when perceiving data, but few regions accept the same blood flow as the one or two focused regions that Se uses.

I enjoy skiing, driving fast, flying planes, but I wouldn't describe myself as a thrill-seeker. And I think I have alright hand-eye coordination, I'm a decent shot with a bow or rifle at least. I'm extremely laid back and take forever to come to a decision because I absolutely have to consider every single option, no matter how long that takes.

If (N) implies all intuitives then I can probably proof almost all of them to be false (i.e. INFJs overall have the highest (thoughtful) reaction time and best hand-eye coordination, causing top-sports and (pro) lan parties to be flooded with INFJs). For the sake of humor though, I lolled reading your post. Specially at number 6.

Cognitive functions are just that cognitive. They explain how you perceive things and think about them.

People need to stop creating weird rules regarding the behavior of certain personality types based on ludicrous inferences from what the functions appear to indicate.

If Se doesn't fit with how you perceive the world, then you don't use it and aren't an ISTP.

I guess we iz juz intpz.

I don't know if there is validity to the statement 'ISTPs take fun seriously'. I mean it's just an opinion but if it's true then well, we are not one of them.

I considered that I may be an ISTP myself a few times. I have excellent coordination with my body, and can really get into "the zone" when I'm being physically active.
But alas, my Ne is just so much stronger. I can never notice detail changes, my humor is very Ne-like, and I just started to notice how little I use my senses when I'm thinking. It's scary how oblivious I become.
