Speak up! Who else loves a good Western? Or perhaps, who doesn't?:beatyou:

I think that the Western genre is my favorite for the same reasons that I like the Post-Apocalyptic genre so much. While the setting may be deferent, more or less, the themes and characters are pretty similar. The themes of survival, hardship, and so on, along with characters that show both the lowest of lows and the highest of highs in human character and resolve. Good stuff.

If you are a fan of the genre, then I have a couple questions for you. Which is your favorite movie(or book/story) and why?

Also, which one... Clint Eastwood, John Wayne, or another?

---

For me, it's like splitting hairs, between 'The Outlaw Josey Wales' and 'Unforgiven.' Between the story and great one-liners such as, "Dyin’ ain’t much of a living, boy." in Josey Wales. And the harsh reality of living in the Wild West and killing another human in Unforgiven. Also, in case it isn't obvious by now, Clint Eastwood characters are the best.

I've failed to transcend genres and don't like Westerns much, unfortunately. I do like Once Upon a Time in the West though.

Love Westerns. Love Eastwood. But in a guilty pleasure sort of way.

Thanks for the recommendation, Vegard. I have heard of it, but never got around to watching and forgot about it. I'll have to check it out... hmmm came out in 1967, great year for movies.

Well, if someone had to pick only one to watch, then that would be an excellent choice.

I'm not big on westerns but there are a few I really love. Obviously Clint is the best of the three! :D I find that my enjoyment of westerns is directly related to how violent and visceral they are.

I've got several of his movies practically memorized word for word. If I were to choose a favorite I suppose I'd have to go with the trifecta of Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good The Bad and The Ugly. I wanted to have Clint's poncho for years afterward.

Although A Mule For Sister Sara is pretty awesome. When he popped his own shoulder back into joint in that movie it change my life. I dream of someday figuring out how to do that.

Anybody seen Sukiyaki Western Django?

Is that Quentin Tarantino dressed like a cowboy you ask? Yes, yes it is. :D

Haha, don't know why, but there is something funny about seeing him play that role.

Beyond its interesting gimmicks, I found Sukiyaki Western Django to be quite boring. Takashi Miike has done much better.

I voted: "Other," because I don't hate westerns but I don't like them. However, I love Westworld. One of my favorite thrillers. And that's about westerns.

"True Grit"
------------------"I call that bold talk for a one-eyed fat man."

How can you not love a movie with that line in it plus a cat named Kirby Smith?

I understand there's a remake in the works....

The other western I much enjoy because it has every element of every conceivable western theme and takes itself just seriously enough is "Silverado." It's kind of like the formula for a country music song: pickup truck, dog, whisky, unfaithful spouse, etc.
