The first thing that of thought of when I read this was from a movie (the second Austin Powers movie skit with a tractor beam.)

Science has gotten 300% cooler because of a tractor beam though. I wonder if it could help move furniture one day? Some of the pieces are so heavy :(

We have five more years for those.

Also, I don't think people should be allowed to get them. Have you seen people drive? Now imagine if they weren't confined by roads.

We'll have self driving cars first. Once "they" iron out all the kinks with automatic driving cars, they will be able to start getting the ball rolling on the whole flying cars thing.

I'm not sure about what it's like where you live, but I used to live in a very rural area and drunk driving was very common there. I think the fact that people still drink and drive is enough argument to stay away from the flying cars.

I wouldn't mind a limited altitude jet pack though.

Not yet in production, but approved by the FAA: http://www.terrafugia.com/POC.html

Took a look at the tractorbeam, and I must say, I'm not a fan of using lasers to drag a Mtn Dew across the room. I don't want a warm drink, and I'd also want to avoid setting the drapes on fire.

Also, since this tractor-beam relys on heating up the air to move things, it's useless in a vacuum.

Tenths in the 21st century was my idea of elevated driving. I doubt this.
Firstly; Tenths what? Context, yo. Secondly; Back to the Future.
