I am going to try something just for the hell of it. Starting tomorrow morning I am going to do everything possible to be my optimal self. I will do all of the things that I don't want to but should. I will get the recommended amount of sleep. I will exercise daily. I will do all of the work I despise but know I need to do. I will avoid unhealthy foods. I will make good on all of my promises. Etc. Etc. Etc.

I do this just because I want to know what the optimal I could be is. I will be posting daily about the results of my efforts. Feel free to join me if you are so inclined.

You could try doing 13 things for a week, then add 1-3 other things each week. Try to maintain this progress for 70 days, until it becomes a routine.

Thank god someone is doing this for me , let me know. * Goes back to pyjamas, procrastinating and picking chocolate cake crumbs off of desk and disappears behind a cloud of tobacco smoke *

Rather than wishing you best of luck, I wish you the best lasting willpower. Because that'll make it work - not luck.

I tried something similar just after my divorce. I managed to keep on top of all cleaning, improve my performance in work, get up an hour earlier 6 days a week to exercise, learn to drive and get a car, learn 2 new programming languages, clean up my diet, learn to build my own PC in the first year and competed in my first race early on in the second year. I started running out of steam, and was finding it ever more difficult until I had an accident whilst attempting to race a Cheatah and broke my ankle. And so I was out and blobbing again for six months.

I'm attempting it again with mixed results. I'm now spending only two and a half hours exercising, am not quite as extreme with my diet (although I recently attempted to switch the mid morning chocolate and crisps with a grapefruit and found this weirdly satisfying as I like really sharp tastes). Plus I've learned a few useful skills (the one that seems to impress people the most is following a tutorial channel in girls hair - and have become highly impressive at styling my daughters' hair), along with some robotics and programming skills I'm slowly developing.

My advice is to start off easy - add things and tasks as you go along. And stick to the times and tasks you set yourself. After forcing yourself a few times, it becomes habit.

I started by locking myself out of the house at 1am. Now I'm posting on the forum and cuddling my cat. It's almost midday and I'm contemplating getting out of bed eventually.

So I'm off to a good start.

Day one was a moderate success. I achieved more than usual but still did not reach the standards I am trying for. However, I did take care of some things that have been long overdue, restarted my exercise regime, and kept some promises I made.

Day 2: Yesterday was less of a success but managed to maintain routine and take care of family obligations.
