I want RB is an absolute beast as town. QT is more familiar with the MU meta.

I'd support either of you going.

A few things here.

I prolly have a better Town game than rb does. Evidence of this is seen here. Admittedly, rb has a much better Scum game than I do if we consider the evidence I provided. (I am LicketyQuickety on that spreadsheet and redbaron is rb.) Its really a toss up on who is a better overall player between rb and myself if you account for margin of error. My Scum game is pretty weak, but my Town game is very strong (top 3%). We are both practically in the top 20% in that data which includes Open Games, Normal Games and Newbie Games. I'm about 4 points ahead of rb in terms of percentage comparing us to the rest of the players who have been documented.

I also think that I might have a little better handle on what to expect from the MU games, but that's mostly due to familiarity of the setting ie. less that 1 week days which I have more experience with.

I think we should create a poll.

i don't keep records

I was nominated for an award though in this thread

and people said i was gud at stuff here as well

I'm also yet to be lynched as a town player in over 40 games.

that is because they send a Nicaraguan death squad to assassinate you on the village green in total daylight with impunity.

------

Anyway, you did come to mind immediately as one of the best candidates, in terms of tactical on-the-fly ability.

QT has a lot of experience, from his end.

Maybe we should punish them all by sending a symbiotic duo of Gopher and Hado. :D

Well town games are more likely yet having a good scum game is good since it's harder to get carried as scum. QT is statistically better yet RB has learnt quicker. OOOH THIS DECISION WILL RIP THE FORUM APART FOR YEARS TO COME! THE GREAT FORUM WAR OF 2017!

Yeah a poll would be good. Or an official voting thread. #VoteRB.

Maybe we should punish them all by sending a symbiotic duo of Gopher and Hado. :D

You kid but that would be hilarious.

Honestly though hindsight on that game we were so close to actually locking it down and trusting each other we just missed each other on the last play and then it all went so horribly wrong.

Maybe we should send a Hydra. (alternate posters on alternate days or just two posters on one account) The Combo of QT and RB. Shame that's probably not possible

There is always hope for the future. I am being facetious, but its very possible something like this could happen. There have been some pretty big Hydra events that Thingyman has hosted on MU.

A poll is not going to work - we don't have enough time for that. Feel free to vote. Someone besides myself and rb should make the final decision as a judge type person. I think Kuu has already assumed this, but I won't know until we hear from him.

lol that data is really bad from my pov. sometimes because of timezones, people will just like fucking hammer or rush a lynch while i'm not even around. or vote like 3 hours into lylo and throw the game

I can't take the data seriously when so many variables in who you play with aren't accounted for, even though yeah technically over time it would show which individuals are better - except the sample size is like 4-5 games max for most players. I think mine is 2 scumgames that I won, then 4 towngames I went 2-2? Even tho 1 game i picked the scumteam day1, died night 1 and they lynched the first read but not the second.

i mean, to lose that game is out of my control really but it will say i'm an average town player and good scumplayer off a sample size of 4 and 2. pretty potato. I think the other one i lost had like 7 lurking replacements or some shit too and the choice of who to lynch was essentially random

anyway I think I'm good at either alignment so long as I'm trying to actually win and not just troll and have fun, but definitely a better town player. I'd say there's not many town players on MafiaScum I'd consider better.

Vecna is probably the best overall player I can think of, no one else really comes to mind. Vecna actually is the best combo of gut/soulread/logical/setup/mechanics understanding/manipulation I've seen.

im better than everyone else!! :p

You talked to Realeo about your stats? He was supposedly accounting for who you are playing with/against.

I'm not "good" at Town. I just win games as Town. Hard to explain. I kinda have an "it" factor that causes my team to win. I think I have narrowed this down to the fact that because I have a different approach that more shit gets talked about/more important shit gets talked about when I am Town. I still have an above 50% average as Scum tho.

oh my gerdness, I played an anonymous hydra game on MU where my partner was assigned. It was really, really fun. If I ever mod a game on MS, it will be a clone of that game.

Anyway, MU has a lot of annoying features that will put RB at a disadvantage. Honestly, it's the only reason I didn't go with him 100%. The 36 hour day, 12 hour night schedule sucks balls when you consider that most of their players are in the US and Europe. D1 is usually a deadline lynch, and votes are usually locked at LYLO. MU is much quicker to policy lynch too. They also tend to hard scum-read people who violate their meta.

If RB could work out the schedule, the weird voting rules, and play a few turbos to get to know some of the players, slang, and general culture, I think he's our best bet for glory.

I know you're very good, QT, and that you're experienced. I believe that you would absolutely get us to a respectable game round. RB has an aura, which once established, could sweep him to and through the final game. Assuming he doesn't lose Round 1.

There's my next reservation. There are a lot of retards on that site who hold respectable positions, and I could totally see RB telling them to go fuck themselves. I believe that would hurt our standings.

So when I say I support both candidates, I just mean I can't figure out who of you would fare the best.

It's mafia championships where each slot in the game is from a different site. So MU meta isn't a thing in these games.

Thanks for the vote of confidence <3

I actually learned to play the game from doing readthroughs of championship games as well, where meta just wasn't a thing. I don't use meta as a result and I think I'm good at being able to parse players that I have very little experience with, compared to most people relying on pre-existing evidence of experience of people's habits.

Yeah meta is just something people say they are noticing when they are trying to pretend they aren't/are scum.

UPDATE ON MAFIA CHAMPIONSHIP

Originally, the plan was for this season to feature 135 communities. We will now have 165 participating communities, which means that this season alone we will have more different communities represented than all other seasons combined. Approximately 60 communities are participating for the very first time. Of the returning communities, about a dozen of them are resending a previous representative, while the rest are all sending fresh faces.

As a result of how big this season has gotten, we'll have more games to look forward to than ever before. We will have 11 qualifying games, 2 wildcard games and 1 finale game = 14 games in total.

All kinds of communities are partipating. Besides the sites dedicated specifically to mafia, we have forums dedicated to popular entertainment, sports, poker, board games, online games, video games, role playing, LEGO, personality type testing, stick figure animations, science, atheism, music, mathematics, comics, students, etc. Some of these communities started playing mafia more than a decade ago; Others just started this year.

Despite this being a forum event, we will also have communities that play the game via various chat clients (Discord, Telegram, IRC, custom, etc.) and via webcam (with games often streamed on Twitch.tv). And not least, there are communities centered around mafia game variants that you can buy on Steam (Town of Salem and Throne of Lies).

This season will also have the biggest international scope yet. For the very first time we will have representatives from Romania, Hungary, Chile, Portugal, Ukraine and Czechia as well as our first person representing a Japanese community. We even have our first Native American.

In addition to this, we of course welcome back countries such as USA, Canada, Australia, United Kingdom, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, the Netherlands, Spain, Poland, Italy, Indonesia, South Africa and Ireland, meaning that we'll have more than 20 different countries represented in total.

_________________________

Final reminder: If your community hasn't picked a representative yet, your deadline is by the end of tomorrow (April 23).

Next update: I am hoping very much I will have all the info I need from all of the representatives by Wednesday at the latest next week. Assuming I do, I will schedule all the qualifying games on this day and get back to you with your representative's start date.

OK, we don't have much time to decide.

We need to see where everyone stands at this point.

Please bring your final concerns to the table so we can figure out who is going.

realeo, who is the creator of the data for the elo project I mentioned said this when I asked him how many games were accounted for:

LicketyQuickety -> 12
rb -> 7

so I have almost twice the games played when it comes to Open, Newbie and Normal games. These are all games that are more in line with a mountainous game since they go by more normal standards in these games then, say theme games.

I checked and it looks like rb has about 25 games on record on MS. I have 26 games on record for Mafia Scum games only, not including hydra games. I have prolly at minimum 10 games played with hydra partners that are not accounted for.

Thanks.

And for the record, you do account for who is in the game and who is playing with who correct?

That is correct.

Oh btw.

Please remind the comittee that there is this + sign. It's crucial.

Could you say who is a better player between the two of us or is it within the margin of error?

No. The glicko is designed to be inconclusive. The glicko is designed for personal use, not comparative use.

Which is why I attack you for making top % comment.

Why do so much work for info that is inconclusive?

Because one day, we would have enough info that it would be conclusive.

But to make into that step, someone need to start the campaign. Ignorance is futile.

Thank you for your time.

I need someone to write a bio for me.

Quick T. Wistovsky (known to friends as Comrade Wistovsky) was born to a farmer deep in the heart of the USSR. His early life was that of any young soviet farmhand, though that would soon change. Using what little he had managed to save, Quick's father sent him off to Moscow to study. There he proved he possessed quite the mind for a country boy. He took to his studies and his studies took to him. Quick soon found himself climbing the ranks of the academics, earning high praise from peers and professors alike. His reputation soon reached the ears of eager government recruiters who approached him with an offer. It's said his response to the offer was conditional to their answer of the question, "will it make the world better for my father?" to which the recruiter simply answered, "Da." And, overnight, the bright young student named Quick T. Wistovsky vanished. He no longer attended classes or meetings. Instead he began intense training as a KGB field operative. Fewer than three months after his initial recruitment, he assassinated his first target. It was far from his last. Over the course of his career as a KGB hitman, he became known for his signature style of murder. Primarily involving severing the brain stem with one quick twist of the victims head and neck. Eventually, though, the Soviet powers began to falter. Wistovsky knew what was coming for the country and he hightailed out of there, using one of his many aliases to settle down in rural America, hoping to leave the life of death and murder behind him.

FINAL UPDATE

Your representative has been slotted into this game below.

GAME 7 @ MAY 29 (48/24 Phase Lengths w/ 6 PM EST deadline)
@Alex N-W (Grand Prix Racing Online)
@ApplelovePear (Ultimate Mafia)
@Didi (Naruto Forums)
@Iwaes Nominated (Malazan Empire)
@jepg (Walter Football)
@LightFoot (The Giraffe Boards)
@Maruland (GreyWolf)
@Nachomamma8 (Rational Skepticism)
@Philgone (GreyWolf Philippines)
@Quick (INTP Forum)
@Sorry (One Piece Bay)
@Tina (The Bell Tree)
@Toby (Last Life)
@Ustegius (Manga Helpers)
@Yandros (Hattrick.org (Spanish))

Do you wish to spectate and/or talk with players from other communities?
We have a big chat on Discord (300+ members) for those that want to spectate and talk about these games. The representatives will be added to this channel too after they die. Or if you just want to chat with people from other communities, we have a general chat too that is unrelated to the Mafia Championship.

1) CLICK HERE TO JOIN: https://discord.gg/zdeEhcg
2) Tag one of the red or blue people in the chat (write @Thingyman or @staff for example), let them know who you are and from what community, and they'll give you the necessary permissions to see the spectator channel. This is necessary to avoid the wrong people (the representatives and their backups) joining the channel.

You don't need to have Discord installed in order to join the channel, as there is a web version.

Do you want to have your own private community spectator chat?
This is definitely both allowed and encouraged. However, I ask that you please do everything possible to make this chat private and inaccessible to your representative, backup and your representative's opponents. It's important that your thoughts and comments don't influence the game. In other words, please don't post about the game in public threads -- this is very important.

Where do I get more info?
Refer to this thread: http://www.mafiauniverse.com/forums/threads/7692-Season-4-The-Time-Is-Now!

This thread will tell you all the details about this season. It also includes the list of participating communities and their representatives.
__________

If you need to get in contact with me, my Skype is "thingyman" and my Discord is "Thingyman#6075". From this point on I will be checking in less on the various sites. I will make sure to pop in again though when your representative's game starts and post a link :)

Heh, alex was scum. Makes sense given his inactive playstyle. Would have been funny if they lynched another townie. I just really want to see what two other players are. Won't say who or anything, just waiting.
