We are (4% of) the World

I just wanted to toss this out as an idea. Those comfortable and able to make videos as per the INTPs on Youtube thread get together and sing a song together. We cut the clips together and combine the audio (which means we probably need to find a track to sing to with headphone). Will work without video too if you want to record your voice via snapvine as long as there isn't too much static.

What do ya'll think? Any song ideas?

Well I just saw the list of the newest inductees to the Rock 'n Roll hall of fame and shook my head when I saw ABBA on the list. So do Fernando, that would make me laugh.

Or if you're trying to do something serious and get it to sound good (don't know how you guys will pull that off) then.....sorry, I don't have any suggestion. I could maybe pull off one of those deep bass voices if needed. Maybe. I don't have a video camera or any recording voices though.....and I ain't singing Fernando!

Maybe reworked version of jingle bells?

and I ain't singing Fernando!
It's one of my life goals to erase ABBA from history.
Or maybe I'll fall in love and learn to appreciate it...

LMAO, I crack myself up.

Well, (please don't throw rocks or rotten fruit) One possibility is to get a karaoke track of some tune and have everyone submit their versions to someone with some audio editing software, who could edit and overlay...

Also I noticed that the new googlewave is supposed to have an 'app' for collaborative work? Someone might want to investigate that possibility(?)

If it's decided to have separate audio and visual tracks, I could assist with the visual, as far as editing images or whatever...

Edit: as far as tune suggestions, for the first trail, perhaps some classic old simple song with an instrumental bridge for some guitar licks?
(re: 500 miles or even in the quietest moments - something similarly INTPish?)

Just examples - not actual suggestions, that is something to be hashed out amongst the participants

Fernando? :phear: Don't want to know...

But I do think this is an interesting idea. Maybe we could do an improv track. Someone does drums, someone does a bass or rhythm guitar track, then a lead instrument or few, then maybe AI could rap or someone could sing.

Dashing through the snow – Jingle bells we know
In a one-horse open sleigh – But that was yesterday
O'er the fields we go – To the keys we go
Laughing all the way – Thinking all the way
Bells on bobtail ring – New ideas to bring
Making spirits bright – To the duals we fight
What fun it is to laugh and sing – What fun it is to read and post
A sleighing song tonight – While staying up all night

(chorus)
Jingle bells, jingle bells – Jingle bells, I hate that song
Jingle all the way – Cause hear it every day
Oh! what fun it is to ride – Oh! What fun it is to mock
In a one-horse open sleigh – In every single way
Jingle bells, jingle bells – Jingle bells, it wont be long
Jingle all the way – Until I get my way
Oh! what fun it is to ride – Oh! I tie you down to a rock
In a one-horse open sleigh – And you’ll never get away :twisteddevil:
(if you've worked in retail, you know the sentiment)

...it's a work-in-progress.

HA! As if you could quelch your curiosity! Now prepare yourself for the glory!
Edit: And you so need to listen and watch all the way through. This was bubblegum pop music of the 70s at it's finest.

And I still ain't singing it but damn if I wouldn't laugh at anyone who does.

Laugh at, not with.

No, not as bad but I don't think it would be as funny watching you guys sing those songs. They don't seem as if they were meant to be taken as seriously. (I had to look up super trouper just now....gee thanks :beatyou:)

...wow. I don't think I could sing that with a straight face. At least it's not as bad as Mamma Mia or Super Trooper.

Hmmm Starship Trooper, though, might be a possibility
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BC_62O0dUEc

- with video clips from the movie based on the Heinlein book by the same name

Or an anthology of Jefferson Starship tunes including "White Rabbit"

I have no experience with video editing, but I'm up for learning. I think I could get a hold of Auto-tune too. Its gonna be really hard to match pitch otherwise when none of us are singing from the same location.

Now that the memory has been jump started I think we should rework an old protest song. Like from Joni Mitchell or Bob Dylan. Or maybe something from the Mamas and the Papas.

Mamas and Papas is probably a better idea than something with a huge, true voice like Gracie Slick. She rings like the world's biggest bell, a one-in-ten-million voice. Looking among INTPs for someone willing to invite a comparison with that voice is probably a mistake. :-) Harmony, now, that I think could happen.

Good luck with this, I look forward to seeing and hearing the end result. It won't be a project for me, I drove the music teacher out of the building when they were testing for pitch in the eighth grade. :D

Oh, don't forget "Wide Wide River" by the Fugs.

YouTube- The Fugs - Wide, Wide River

Any song with the lyrics "River of Shit" in it is better than a song without. And a primal scream, too.

Bohemian rhapsody!

There is multi-voice and video options, I forget the website that allows up to like 20 people. It can get laggy though, as expected.

One way to go about this would be 1. pick a tune, alternatively pick a genre and some of us could compose the actual piece. 2. one forum member will arrange and record the music, if we don't go with a prerecorded backing track that is. Having one member play the piano, another bass etc. would complicate it too much.
Here is the tricky part though. You want to have a larger vocal arrangement which members are to sing individually, right?
One idea would be that the "composer/arranger" would orchestrate the individual voices. Then for example send tracks out with a piano outlining the melodic line that particular forum member are to sing. Then that forum member would sing along to the piano, record, then send their vocals, without backing back to the arranger. The vocal audio must be separately recorded so we can get a clean vocal track that can be properly mixed later on.

Not sure I managed to explain it correctly, or in an understandable way.
Anyways, as you can see, if you are to get something decent, it isn't just a walk in the park:)

I am sure there is software that can facilitate this process, but i don't know the capacities of Virtual Dub or others. Anyone know about such things... ???

There will have be a "producer" of some kind...

If we need to simplify it to match our available abilities and software we can choose a song that has parts like "Hallelujah"

I see it as a win win, no matter what comes of this, it can't help but be a success, a triumph, an ode to human potential. Obviously there are some members with exceptional musical/singing abilities, but by and large this isn't the case - 10-15% musical talent, 85-90% riffraff [with respect to musical proficiency] I'd guess, but even so, if the final product isn't quite masterpiece material - I'm sure it'll still be funny and interesting, possibly even more so. I'm hoping it's a wildly meandering and disorienting cacophony, audible pain - to the point that people listening are physically and mentally incapacitated, as opposed to something serious, done in earnest...like when you're making a powerpoint and you put all the stock sound effects on on a single slide and play them simultaneously to sensationalize/add credibility to whatever point you're halfheartedly trying to make. Having said that, good luck either way, look forward to hearing it.

I have some video editing experience, and it's a habit of mine to jump into programs I that I've never used and obsessively figure them out. So I'm not impartial to learning. :)

I think this song, or our own version of it, is incredibly appropriate.

YouTube- Daft Punk - Around The World

Though if we do this song I'm wearing this.

On a related note, would anyone like to be the Bangalter to my Homem-Christo next Halloween?

I did a google search with the key words (free online karaoke site collaboration) and there were some interesting results posted such as

http://crazeegeekchick.com/blog/27-free-must-have-online-collaboration-tools/

http://sixrevisions.com/tools/15-free-tools-for-web-based-collaboration/

http://www.virtualnoise.com/collaboration/

I figured other INTPians would be interested in the project just to learn and do something new.

I am even thinking about making of a video of my own to post - just to see if I can do it...

I've been thinking this problem over... I love the "Around the World" idea, but I just don't see how we can make something cool like that when most of us are not where near, or not physically acquainted with INTPs around us.

I'll see about choreographing something to give everyone else some ideas...

I just met the song, not the actual choreography. :p
Though the video could probably be edited to complement the music.

I'll start by saying I'm totally up to participate in this.

Bohemian rhapsody appeals to me since that's of the only songs I actually know all the words to and it gives off a good vibe to have multiple people sing it.

If anybody has any ideal how to make a stop music video, well that would just be so awesome. That has to be one of the best ideas I've seen, we just need to find out who knows how to do it and then send that person noise clips.

I feel obliged to mention a free program for making beats called hobnox. here I'll link it.

http://www.hobnox.com/index.en.html

click the window that says "Audiotool" to go to the program

It's pretty fun to mess around with and doesn't take a crap load of time to learn, maybe just a couple of hours and you can get a good beat.

I'm definitely gonna work on this, but it might have to wait until the new year. I'm working solid night shifts through the 1st.

Those with spare time I would encourage you to put on your headphones and video yourselves singing to "Bohemian Rhasody"

YouTube- Queen - Bohemian Rhapsody

We'll take that footage and mix it together and worry about the visual side afterward. Just like a real music video :D Sound good?

Edit: anyone have a karaoke version of the song we can put our vocals over? And anyone that wants to play any part of the song on an instrument will absolutely be mixed in too.

Ummmm.....so are we still up for attempting to do this?

Because I was planning on making a video of me singing Karaoke before my computer crashed and will do so as soon as it's back up and running again

but it's gonna take a lot more than that, and nobody has posted in this thread for a good 2 weeks

and there's a karaoke version of bohemian rhapsody on groove shark. Just type "Bohemian Rhapsody Karaoke" it fills in all the backup singing and leaves the main vocals blank

Just trying to keep this thing going. Because it still seems like a really cool idea to me

I'm still all about doing this... just been busy since the start of the holidays (socializing of all things... ugh). Do we want everyone to record their karaoke version and then have someone (possibly Adaire) cut it together? I don't know what program is used to do it, but it could be fun to see our faces in a Brady Bunch grid singing the different parts.
