walk and think

when I'm concentrated and I think I can not stop me to walk back and forth. It helps me to think and concentrate. Sometimes when I walk I can walk for hours just looking down and thinking only of my projects, without realizing track of time. Without realizing it I can walk for hours or for several kilometers. enimstein concentrated by turning around, I concentrate by walking back and forth. It also happens to you? Is it a characteristic of INTPs, or am I raving comparing me to Einstein?

I don't know if it's characteristic of INTPs more than any other type, but I do this very often. I used to get poked fun at for how much I paced, actually. I just love walking and thinking in general...I would walk as far as I could every day until my legs gave out if I could, I think.

If I decided to walk outside just to think, I would likely forget about what I wanted to think about and focus on what's happening outside.
I prefer to pace back and forth within a contained environment when I really need to do some hardcore thinking... but when I prefer to get some fresh air... it means that I've hit a roadblock and that I need a distraction.
I often talk to myself when I am thinking as well... this keeps for a continuous train of thought and helps me to focus a lot on the projects that I am working on.

I pace around my house whenever I'm thinking hard about something. This is almost always followed by my mom asking my "Whats wrong?" or yelling at me to stop. I think walking helps most people concentrate and if not that I'm sure everyone at least some sort of activity that helps them along with it.

I don't pace. My deep thinking takes the physiology of staring into space.

I tried the pacing back and forth thing, it's too alien to me.
Though, I do love walking long distances and thinking of my thoughts.

Doing it almost all the time while thinking and also tend to move my arms around extensively at the same time. Almost gesticulating, but not quite. ^^

I'm definitely a Pacer too.

This is why it takes me longer than most people to read a book, I'll read one page, and then get up and pace around my living room, degesting what I just read. Pretty much anytime my mind is moving fast, I'll physically feel uncomfortable if I am not moving as well.

I don't think it is an INTP thing specifically, because I've noticed it in ENTPs and INFJs as well. It might be an Intuitive with Ti and Fe thing.

It looks pretty funny if me and my brother (ENTP) are in the same room, because both of us pace when we think, only he looks up when he does it, and I look down.

That's interesting, I don't know if it's associated with type but I'm definitely a pacer as well.

Yeah, I pace quite a bit, so much so my family teases me about it. Though I also do it to normalize my body temperature, as I get cold if I stay still for long.

I get my highest quality thought star gazing, so I'm very fond of night time jaunts.

I take a while to read books, also. I've never understood people who take pride in how fast they read books. I'm perfectly capable of reading and understanding the surface elements of what I read at an extremely quick pace. The problem is that, as you described, I like to think over and digest pages as I read them.

Hmm. I'm divided here. I don't like speed reading but at the same time I think over-analyzing kills the intensity. I guess it depends on the type of book I'm reading.

I never pace while thinking, can do my thinking while incorperating almost anything. Only time I do a pacing action is when I am plugged in and playing musical instruments, I just can't stay still, it is more of moving to my plugged in boundaries than pacing. Guess INTP would be more inclined to think internally, and do things which allowed them to return to their natural place, which repetition would bring someone back to a stasis of normal.

Reminds me of the Nietzsche quote: the best thoughts are conceived by walking. I find it easier to concentrate while walking because it's a low energy workout which allows me to be less jittery.

To me this sounds a lot like a strong manifestation of the Ne Bounce. I don't know why an INFJ would be pacing, I grew up with one as a sister, and I can say with certainty that she never paced. Compare to an ENFP I knew, who would start bouncing excitedly and running back and forth whenever they were onto something.

I am exactly so too.

the apex of my reflective walks I find at night when I brush my teeth. As a young boy was fighting constantly with my mother and my sisters for that reason,Face the fact that they are peeved by this thing. Now I despute for the same reason with my wife too...........

Most definitely. My theory is that your increasing the total electrical potential of your brain, possibly some spilling off from the motor control centers that allows the entire brain to function more smoothly.

It can be walking, chewing my lip, or fiddling with something like spinning a pencil or ripping little pieces off a sheet of paper. Something to help me zone out.
