A fucking black hole
One of the excerpts from my submission:
"However, this opened up another line of inquiry for all of us. If gendered structuration possessed by capitalism in the form of specialization of labour and historically determined and enforced via mass media and culture led women to populate feminine occupations, it also possessed the dialectic of meritocracy and such historicities which are bound to be in favour of women who achieve a particular level of economic status-quo rendering them out of the patriarchal structure and constraints of being a woman defined by a man’s preferences."

My professor's comments - "What is gendered structuration? What is the dialectic you are referring to?". No, you dumbass, the structuration is in the form of division of labour and the dialectic is this division of labour contrasted with meritocracy. You just needed to put some more effort in reading the entire sentence and not running out of working memory.

This is just one instance of this kind of idiocy. I was accused of using 'esoteric academic jargon' when I believe my phrasing to be precise in what it says - at least much better than the bullshit diction and phraseology used by most sociologists in their writings which were given to us. It is so damn clear she read all this in absolute haste. i was the only one in the classroom who actually wrote a goddamn monogram without sprinkling facts with theories as-is like my classmates who wrote absolute dumb shit and ended up getting really high marks because they followed the goddamn instructions and used simple vocabulary which was easier for the professor to read. This reminds me of a section in Thinking Fast And Slow which said that people love something when they grasp it quickly and get a dopamine hit of smartness. This professor is also a CEO of her own org and a professor and a researcher. And fucking this. I feel like spitting on this institution's insistence on mediocrity.

What year/subject?

I was writing similar to this for a while. I was accused of "flowery language". Markers hate it because it takes a lot more time for them to parse and it doesn't demonstrate clear engagement with the unit. By using your own phraseology, you're not showing you've read what they want you to read or have understood the terms they want you to understand.

So IMO, you should try to write to your audience. I know it feels stupid, but communication is a skill and you're not writing to yourself. Their preferences are more important than yours. An assignment is not an IQ test. It's an opportunity to demonstrate what you've learned in the unit (outside knowledge doesn't matter or count).

I also think it's probably not as clear as you think it is. If I'm a marker and I've got 100 assignments to grade, my brain is cooked and I just want you to tick boxes. Show me you understand meritocracy and dialectic on their own before you combine them. Cite each from where you read about it, and if you coin your own term (they usually hate it but there's no rule against it) you need to explain why you're using it instead of a term already in use.

No offence, but as a professor and CEO she's probably done a lot more work in and knows a lot more about this field than you. If you genuinely want to improve rather than just get your way it's probably wiser to take her feedback on board gracefully.

if you are asked to clearly define the terms and concepts you are throwing around, that should be taken as good advice
