Are they all the same? Do any brands/types offer more security/privacy than others?

I intend to download and use TOR and/or other similar things onto it to play around on the deep web.

Thank you.

In the DS of A, and yer a cop, you have to admit it, right?

I'm not a cop, but I'm pretty sure I'm a "square". I should add to my 'tips for buying' thread - how to stay cool and not awkward.

It might not be as weird as it sounds though. I have almost identical threads out at more relevant forums. But you guys are smart. The possibility of getting good info/reasoning here seems high.

I'd say you shouldn't go on this 'deep web', unless you are capable of taking the time and effort to figure out these questions on your own.

Back in high school a friend of mine bought tons of shit from the silk road but he took like a month beforehand looking up and learning everything about the encryption and all that fun stuff.

Also you are almost definitely a square. As evidenced by you using the phrase "square." :D

I actually might seem a little cooler in person, but not much lol. I'd probably come off more shy or disinterested than anything else.

To be honest, I feel like I"m getting a bit of a grasp on whats going on and how to interact with it properly. I plan to be as careful as I can be. I doubt the feds will put anything on hold for a sheet of acid, but still, I'd like to be over prepared, if possible. Such as which brand of USB stick would be best...maybe its a detail that could be mostly over looked, but it certainly wont hurt to find the best one.

Tails is probably your best bet, since it forces all internet traffic through the Tor network and as soon as power is cut all records of computer use are erased, since everything is stored in RAM. Though it does look like you can store encrypted files on storage if you need to save anything too. It also advertises encryption of emails and messages as well.

Honestly, how much more protection can you get?

You basement
Encrypt the USB Drive. Securitywise, doesn't matter which thumb drive you use as they mostly use a standard driver when they connect to your computer. Encrypting it is good in case you lose it or it is stolen.

There is a usb drive that has a key pad on it and only works when you enter the pin. I don't know a lot about it though.

You sound like a virgin.

If you are trying to do something risky on the net you need a good firewall with custom port blocking and maybe a multi-step proxy ip service, forget about usb's and try to learn about the topic a bit more. Back in the olden days people used to set up their firewalls on separate machines and connect through them, but you can also do it on a virtual machine or without it now.

Concluding that you need a usb tells me you aren't prepared for this, or you shouldn't prepare at all and not bother with inefficient security.
