This is an idea I had that I derived from Socionics and a bit from Auburn’s facial type reading research and I’ve been thinking about it a lot recently. It’s not something I’ve just barfed up right now.

I’m not very good at articulating my thoughts out loud. I sometimes get mixed up with words etc. I’ll lose track in the middle of a sentence, struggle to find the right word etc. It can be a problem, especially in job interviews.
This is something that a lot of INTPs struggle with, since our articulation function, Fe, is at the bottom of our function stack. EJs are the type best able to articulate themselves because their articulation function is their lead function. This is something explained in Adymus’s Cognitive Functions 101 thread.

But Socionics explains that we are all able to process information relating to all eight of the functions; it is just the strength of our ability to do this in relation to each function and the purpose we use each function for that differs between types and subtypes. See Socionics Model A.

When I’d had a few drinks one night I was standing in my living room talking to myself in the mirror and noticed that I would sometimes move my face in a way that would suggest that I was using Te, or Ni etc, functions that MBTI says are not my conscious functions.

To give an example, if you want to use Ni, imagine a car journey that you take regularly and try to count how many sets of traffic lights or roundabouts you encounter on that journey. You will find that your eyes lose their focus on the immediate environment and do what could be termed the thousand yard stare, or as facial typing guru’s say, the Ni drift. It what your face looks like when your brain is trying to do some time surfing. It’s really obvious with lead Ni users.

I tried this with an ESTJ friend of mine and he had a really hard time with it. I found it quite easy (I’m INTP). Socionics says that Ni for an ESTJ is their vulnerable function, their weakest function. So it sort of makes sense that he’d be bad at this game according to Socionics, if we agree that we use Ni when mentally driving a car that is.

Socionics terms functions Strong and Weak. For INTP our conscious strong functions are Ti and Ne and our unconscious strong functions are Te (ignoring) and Ni (demonstrative) function.

If we can learn how to tap into these functions then we should be able to become ENTJs for brief periods of time, as our conscious ego functions will always win out in the end.

And here is something you might find a bit wacky but I think it works for me. You have to channel psychic energy down your articulation hand (ie your writing hand, for me the left hand) and start doing a chopping motion or tapping in a steady rhythm. Then start talking to yourself, or just try to articulate something and keep going (if you are alone it won’t matter what subject). If you start doing this your Te should kick in at the same time and you will find your sentences being more automatic and you won’t be thinking them through they should just pour out. I find myself doing a thousand yard stare too which suggests that I’m using Ni at the same time. This, I believe is your unconscious Te and Ni which you have called out volitionally; which is potentially very useful.

This won’t work to an equal extent with all the types though. It’s about being able to switch to your functions in position 7 and 8 of Model A, the Id block, which are different for different types. For instance an Si lead is able to activate their Se when called for and become very confrontational for periods of time. A Te lead is just as effective with Ti etc. You just have to find your trigger; this gesticulating in steady rhythm being a very effective trigger for an INTP to get into Te mode.

I was talking to an ENFP (vulnerable function: Ti) about the two types of logic (i.e. Te and Ti) and he started on about how Ti was a slow type of logic and was really disparaging about Ti and said it was guesswork and not useful at all. He said he had been reading the book “Thinking, fast and slow” and although I haven’t read this book, my friend’s descriptions of “thinking fast” sounded textbook Te and his description of “thinking slow” sounded just like Ti. And I was like, “maybe this whole thinking fast and slow book is about telling people to engage with the type of logic (either Ti or Te) that they don’t normally use to help them get ahead in life.” As I said this ENFP buddy was very critical of the slow thinking style. Don’t hit an ENFP with Ti too hard though or they’ll really start to hate on you.

And I’m guessing here, that maybe there is some connection with this book and Socionics and facial typing methods and being able to engage with all the cognitive functions if we know how. It should really help out INTPs in job interviews or public speaking if we can unleash our inner ENTJ.

I got a new job recently and I think this was down in part to learning how to use this technique for interview.

You basement
I have a very short attention span but I really want to read your post. Is there a way you could reduce this down from 929 words to about 30?

Yes it is exactly 929 words and no I did not count each one. I used wizards magic to figure out the number.

Unfortunately I can't but I suggest you cut it down into chunks, because that's some cutting edge shit right there!
